Operation Ember

It had been a normal day at camp. I had been at the archery range that afternoon teaching the Hermes campers how to properly shoot arrows. This didn't go over well, seeing as all they did was switch each others arrows up with rubber and fart arrows. It got so bad that everyone in the arena needed to evacuate so that campers gifted with aerokinesis could bring in some fresh air. On my way back from my early dismissal, a quiet day at camp suddenly got intense.

There was a loud crash that came from the forest, and soon, black smoke and flames that licked the blue skies rose from the tree tops, causing my heart to plummet into my stomach with dread.
Had the Nymphs and Satyrs finally had it? Being trapped in there could probably do that to a person.
My steady stride became a desperate sprint as I moved forward, my legs carrying me as quick as they could without causing me to trip.

I collided with the border once I got too close, which left me on the ground slightly dazed. I got up quickly to inspect the situation. I ripped through some bushes that had been grown by children of Demeter previously when the camp had worked together to make a doorway to smuggle Nymphs and Satyrs out of the forest. Mr.D had found out about it, and closed it, but had obviously done a sloppy job. It had been weakened by whatever had gone on in there, which was good for me.
I wasn't so sure re-opening it was such a good idea, but with a forest fire on my hands, I had to. Crazy or not, those were living forest creatures and I needed to get them out of there.
My plan was to use my violin to play hypnotizing music for the Nymphs and Satyrs and will them to follow me deeper into the forest where there was no fire and they would be safe, like near the water. That could end badly for me, and I wasn't too keen on going back in there again after my last encounter, but I had my bow back, and I was ready to defend myself.
Phase one of my plan was to destroy the weakened part of the border. Last time I had done it, it took waves and waves of demigods. I remembered on Quintyn and Luke's mark, shooting exploding arrows into the border.
Wait!
I reached into my quiver, which I hadn't turned back into my violin, and pulled out an exploding arrow I had confiscated from an exceptionally mischievous son of Hermes. His enthusiasm for explosives reminded me of Merry and Pippin from The Lord of the Rings, in which I was Gandalf.

I stepped back from the border and quickly pulled the exploding arrow to my bow string. I was careful not to set it off by knocking it around too much. These things could be sort of temperamental. I didn't want to end up looking like Seamus Finnegan from Harry Potter.
With the correct amount of leeway on my string, my three fingers clutching around the arrow itching to let go, I released. The arrow flew into the bushes and exploded the small door of the border. At least, I thought it had. Problem was, it made a whole other kaboom sound. The leaves of the bushes singed off with the fire. I ran forward and stamped on it with my heavy timberland boots in desperate attempt to keep the forest fire out of camp.
I also made a mental note to get a Demeter kid to fix the bush after I was done here.

I turned around to see if anyone was looking. I didn't want Mr.D somehow finding out about the hole in the border again. Luckily, I saw Adella and Harlie running up to me, instead of the prying eyes of suspicious demigods. I wasn't sure if it had been another camper to tip off Mr.D. He hadn't specified. But I was definitely less trusting of campers around here when it came to the border.
Adella and Harlie, though, I could trust with anything and I knew that.
They must have heard one of the explosions. I was relieved to have backup, if that was the reason they were coming, but something told me they weren't here to have a tea party.
I shot my hands into the air and waved them, beckoning them over quickly.

Adella's bright eyes darted open, her clear glaze staring straight at the top of her bunk bed, the silvery glow practically entertainment for Adella. Adella didn't know why she had woke up-she was perfectly fine in her napping position. But maybe it was the fact that she was so much better then everybody else ; her internal senses immediately knew something was wrong. Adella heard her sisters coming and going throughout the cabin, the lull of words being spoken filling the empty void of silence which Adella has come to love. By using her ears, Adella could see that they thought everything was okay. The words of disgust of boys, the qwords of admiration for Capture The Flag tactics. They obviously thought that nothing was wrong. So why was Adella's whole brain filled with the thinking process that something was absolutely wrong?

Adella shut her eyes again and tried to sleep. She must have been there for moments, but it felt like agonizing hours as the terror of some unknown threat was clogging up Adella's mind. No, she told herself, your overreacting. She had overheard Artemis talking to her sister once about how she has Anxiety problems-something Adella totally didn't think was correct, but how do you contradict a goddess? Adella recalled the memory, but opened her eyes, breaking the visual image that was taking place in her eyes. With a heave, Adella sat up, bonking her head on the bottom of the top bunk. "Ow," Adella muttered, rubbing her head. The pricks of pain filled her hands as they touched the circlet, but Adella was used to it. She never took that thing off. Literally rolling herself onto the floor, Adella got up on her knees and said a quick prayer of thanks to Artemis like she always does, and then heaved herself up on her feet. Within three quick paces, Adella had her silvery parka and her body was out the door.

Now, what was wrong? Nothing seemed wrong, ut she learend that things were never as they seemed. Like how her sisters looked average, but they were actually lethal killing machines. Adella's eyes scanned the camp, looking for any possible threats. everybody seemed fine, but a girl. Harlie, right? She was looking nervous and then bolted a direction. Soon later, Adella heard a noise. Was that what she was so worried about? Adella quickly walked in the direction the girl was headed, trying to not arose any suspicion from the dimwitted campers. But when Harlie was almost out of her sight, she darted after her.

Adella soon came into view of bushes that looked like they were trampled by a dinosaur. She caught sight of Fletch and Harlie. "What Happened?"

Harlie's mind flashed back to just a few days ago, back to the moment that started the whole need for a hair change. She remembered how the nymphs and satyrs just attacked Pierce, there was no reason behind it. And they wouldn't stop, it was almost like they became the monsters that they used to protect demigods from. Harlie had heard stories of how satyrs are all over the world, protecting demigods and bringing them to Camp Halfblood. Some even risked their lives by fighting monsters, but all just seemed like a fairy tale here. She's never really seen a satyr that wasn't trying to hurt her.

Meeting Fletch's blue eyes with her hazel ones, Harlie fought internally with herself. He was asking her to protect those that would gladly hurt her. Maybe he remembered a time when they weren't this way, but she didn't. But Fletch wouldn't ask her to do something like this if it didn't really mean a lot to him.

Harlie looked away from Fletch and back from the smoke coming from the woods, and she immediately knew what she had to do. She had to help, and she couldn't let Fletch go in there by himself.

"Well what are we waiting for?"

Harlie took a couple steps towards the new exit in the border and then looked back at Fletch and Adella.
