Nirvana used her arm to hold up the weight of her head, totally bummed as she watched the trees pass by quickly as she made her way to camp. She still had yet to fully understand why exactly Uncle was taking her there. Never been there before so why start now? Sighing, she thought solemnly to herself, Pick up the attitude girl! You don't want to be a burden! So, she decided to be perkier, especially since she wouldn't see her Uncle for awhile no doubt. Her free hand was buried deep in the pocket of her hoodie, clasped around portrait of her father. The pain of leaving him in such a state plagued her every waking moment. A terrible thought always, even if she wasn't constantly aware, was glued in the back of mind. What if Dad dies while I'm gone? She never stopped worrying about it.
"Talk to me Nirv," Her Uncle's voice drifted into her thoughts. Being surprised her arm jerked and sent her head crashing into the window.
"Aish! Don't scare me like that!" He gave a hearty laugh, turning his attention momentarily away from the road to give her the smile she loved best. The one that made all of the wrinkles on his aged face apparent. The squinting of his eyes. It was the picture of happiness no doubt. She continued to watch him as he turned his attention back to the road. They continued to ride in absolute silence for another ten minutes before the car came to a gradual halt. The ride was too fast, she didn't want to leave. Nirvana knew she needed to make this goodbye short or she'd never leave. She'd cling onto his legs, jump on the roof of the car, hold onto the back for dear life. Anyway she could stay with someone who resembled her father so much. Reaching out, she cupped herhand around his soft, round face, a sad smile tugged at her lips,
"Dangsin-eul salanghabnida, Ajeossi," He returned the gesture and pointed in a direction. She nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. The direction for camp, peachy. Getting out of the car she tightened the straps of her backpack and looked down at her shoes. Converse. Yeah, she loved 'em. Looking back up she felt tears just waiting to surface but she sucked it up and looked at her Uncle before giving him a wave and trudged off in the direction pointed. Nirvana wondered how long she'd have to walk till she got there? In all honesty, her Uncle really hadn't said how to get there or anything. All he'd said was that was as far as he himself could go.
Don't tell me I'm going to get lost...?
