Better than the Book (Closed)

POV: Dexter Wright

That afternoon I had been making my way to the Arts and Crafts Building, where I was planning to get some drawing done. Before I left, I had filled up a cup of coffee and eaten some chocolate covered coffee beans. I was ready for a nice day spent sketching. It didn't seem to turn out that way, though.
I remembered stepping out of my cabin with my usual ensemble of pajama pants, home-made tye-dye camp shirt, and my Automaton sloth Jeeves clinging to my back. I tucked my sketchbook underneath my arm and carried four different pencils with me. That's about all I remember before I started day dreaming, as well as crafting a flower crown made of daisy's. It hadn't seemed like I had been doing it for long, but I guess that was an understatement.
I was pulled out of my deep concentration in my thoughts by the totally uncool clattering of metal, and the swish of weapons making contact with dummies. I stopped in my tracks and looked up in surprise to realize that I seemed to have walked straight passed the Arts and Crafts building, and right into the entrance of the Training arena. A place where dudes much bigger than I was trained together, sparring with weapons I wouldn't even know where to start using, and totally didn't want to.
"Dude..." Was all that escaped my mouth. I dropped my flower crown on the floor in surprise, and bent to pick it up. As I stood, I was about to turn around and walk out, but I noticed a guy looking at me. This dude was DEFINITELY bigger than I was. He had dark skin, he was tall and probably weighed a lot more than I did as well. Awkwardly, I threw a peace sign up and did my best to hide my uncertain expression.

This dude was even bigger up close. Holy Hades, man.
"I... Uh..." I didn't exactly want to admit that I had just missed the Arts and Crafts center by such a long shot. "Yeah, dude..." I decided to answer. Of course, my face probably said the complete opposite. In actuality, I wanted to get out of here as fast as I could. This whole fighting thing definitely wasn't for me. Sometimes I wished everyone else could just be peaceful. I mean, I guess I understood that there were monsters out there, but those couldn't get you in here. It was another story if you were looking for a quest, but I definitely wasn't looking for a quest. I was looking to sit in some grassy fields, sleep, sketch and make as many flower crowns as I could, because who doesn't love flower crowns.
I could have continued on this mental tangent about what I would rather be doing instead of standing like a doofus in the entrance of the training arena, but that only made things more awkward.
After pulling myself from my thoughts I turned my gaze up to look at the dude that towered above me. He had to be at least 6 foot something... Or smaller... Maybe taller, I really wasn't good at calculating height anyway. I wasn't good at calculating anything in general.
I decided to give him a peace offering. I held out my hand, hanging from it was the daisy flower crown I had just weaved together.
"... Flower crown?" I offered. "Oh, and uh... What's your name, man?" I asked, in attempt to keep a conversation going instead of continuing to make myself look like a confused jellyfish.

I pulled the daisy flower crown back with a shrug and decided to put it on my head. It sat crookedly on top of my head of messy, curly hair.
Jonathan asked if I as lost, and pointed out that I didn't look like I should be there. The assumption didn't bother me at all. Although it made me think of one of my good friends Lumen Foster, a daughter of Ares who also happened to be blind. That assumption definitely would have earned Jonathan a punch in the jaw. Instead of doing that, I simply let a lazy grin slip onto my face.
"You're telling me, bro," I answered. "And nah, I wouldn't say lost... I just... Zoned out, I guess." Man, it wasn't the first time that had happened to me. I was almost always zoning out at the wrong moments. Like, I remembered one time where I was on my way to the lake to go for a Canoe ride and I ended up at the rock climbing wall. Just about the scariest thing I had ever looked up at.
"I've been here for two years... It'd be pretty sad if I got lost, eh?" I said lightheartedly as I brought my hand up to scratch the back of my neck, my fingers brushing past the leather necklace, covered by my messy hair, that hung two colourful beads proudly.

Jonathan kept looking at the sun, which by default caused me to follow his gaze. I squinted my already sleepy eyes, but looked away quickly as they began to sting. I rubbed them with my fingers like I would rub sleep out of my eyes before I grunted in response.
"Yeah, I've got some drawing to do," I said, bringing my gaze back up to Jonathan. He was a pretty chill dude, something I hadn't expected, but then again, shame on me for judging someone before I got to know them better.
"My names Dexter by the way," I said. "If you ever wanna, like, hang out or something I'm usually in the Arts and Crafts center... Or the lake... Or the Hypnos Cabin... Because I live there." I stopped adding destinations to find me at after my cabin. I figured this guy wouldn't care too much.
"... Good luck with your new sword," I added in conclusion. I took a quick swig of the coffee I had poured into my mug that I had nearly forgotten about. How I had forgotten the cup filled with warm beverage was beyond me, but hey, I was a pretty forgetful guy and almost always misplaced things.
I started taking steps back before I lazily swung my body weight around and threw another peace sign over my shoulder as I looked back at Jonathan.
"Seeya around, dude. Stay rad," I said with a friendly smile as I moved to take my leave. I hoped I'd talk to him more another time. There was like, tons that I didn't know about him.
