Battle Training: Dummies have no battle plan (CLOSED)

"You should try a mace, they said, it would be fun, they said." I muttered to myself as I lifted the heavy weapon off the floor.
It had been during free time, where I had actively voiced my boredom with the sword. I've used it so often now, and I loved the ease that came with it, but I felt like a challenge. Of course Finn had to suggest me a mace, something that was totally out of my area of expertise.
"I really shouldn't ask for a challenge." I mumbled.
What annoyed me most was the weight: it wasn't that heavy, but the fact that all the weight was on the opposite side of where I was holding it, caused me to cradle it with both arms for me to lift it upright. I tried it once more, to lift it up. This time with just two hands. With a loud grunt the solid celestial bronze head hovered over the ground, but it began to tip under my weight. In a desperate attempt to hold on I tried to channel the momentum upwards and to the left, but I spun out of control. Before I knew it I had swung it straight towards a camper.

"Oh, crud. Sorry about that, Cole." I answered sheepishly, rubbing the back of my neck in embarrassment.
"I was just using other weapons to switch it up a bit, ya know?" I explained myself. "Well, I mean technically that's the whole idea right?" I told him jokingly about ripping arms off.
I began to walk towards the rack of armour off to the side of the arena and took a Greek helmet out of the stack.
"Here," I began, tossing him a helmet. "You're gonna need it."
I hope he was okay for being my weapon experiment.

"Mmm, I was afraid you'd say that." I chuckled.
I heaved up the weapon, adjusting it over my head, adjacent to Cole. I tightened my grip and straightened my posture in attempt to have a better control over the weapon. I could feel it try to sway against my will, but I locked it in place. I looked to Cole. His bright blue eyes seemed to glow under the dark shade of his helmet, casting an eerie look. I couldn't decipher much of his facial features from under the helmet but by his body language I could tell that he was determined and waiting, more than likely studying my own movements. I bent my elbows and stabbed downward in a quick motion with my point, making sure that I was aiming slightly to Cole's left, just in case for any reason he couldn't dodge or deflect it in time.

I stepped backward to avoid Cole's sword, but the tip grazed my shirt, the cloth tearing a bit. The mace tilted backwards and I fell on my butt as it's weight pulled me down. I cursed as I tried to pull the mace over my body to protect the rest of it before I tried to get up.
"I'm not done with you yet!" I told Cole in strained laughter and my mess ups.
With a heave, I lifted it up, placing my other hand right underneath the spiked club part. Hopefully it would keep my shielded as I stood back up.

"Gah!-Oh um, wait a sec." I hissed out.
I kept my mace up as his sword clashed against it, the sudden force causing me to roll onto my back. I used the mace as a point of equilibrium as I swung it around to help me somersault backwards, pulling myself up into a crouch and immediately springing my legs up. I swung the mace upward, but I had gotten used to the weight by now, and was able to swing it to the right just last minute, and instead of going for his head I went for a low sweep at his legs, hoping to catch the more experienced demigod off-guard.

I smiled with pride as Cole fell to the ground, but caught by surprise as he quickly pushed himself back up with full force with barely any time to react. I had gotten a good hold of the mace and was able to barely deflect his blows, but the recoil from the hits was toos strong and the force pushed me backwards until my back was pressed against the wall. The number one place I shouldn't be. I started to shuffle to the side of the wall, trying to keep my mace steady but the kickback had it in an unstable position, swinging around from left to right as I tried to readjust it.
"So, uh, Cole. How long've you been swordfighting?" I muttered out.
Might as well know your opponent while you're locked in treacherous battle.

I froze as the tip of Cole's sword pressed against my chest, tensing up. My heart pounded against the side of my chest as if it wanted to leap out.
"I-uh, thanks, man." I stuttered out with a sigh as I lowered the mace. "You too."
My breath was shaky and my body still itched for a longer spar, but I was beat. At least with this spiky death trap of horror I was. As disappointed in myself as I was, what else would I expect? I was just so used to fighting with a weapon that I had practiced with for a long time, I forgot how it was like to feel uncomfortable and inferior with one. I wasn't particularly horrible with the mace though, and I learned some interesting tactics with it that I could never pull off with a sword. At least that's what I've got from assessing the battle. I pushed the negative emotions off me though. It was a good spar, despite it being short, and Cole had a lot more experience than I did. He was very skilled with a sword, maybe more than I would like to admit.
"Maybe next time I'll show you what I actually got." I said, a playful smirk growing on my lips as I carefully pushed his sword away from my vital organs.
