Always having tons of energy might sound like a great plan, but it is highly over-rated. Evander Ajax rarely slowed down, and now he was hoping to use up his free time trying to exhaust himself. He had a good chance of it, using his heavy hoplon shield and kopis sword for drills while dressed in full red armor. He had no partner, but used a dummy, hacking and hitting the wooden enemy with gusto.
Evander was acutely aware of the sweat dripping down him in rivulets, and the burning of his muscles as he moved. It made him feel alive, the precious pain that came as he moved. Everything else he was able to tune out, a rare accomplishment for him. Hyperfocusing on the dummy, all that existed was him, his weapons, and his poor hapless enemy.
He wasn't sure how long he fought against the dummy, focusing on the steady hits he could rain down upon it. If he didn't focus on it being a dummy, he would imagine it was his father, or, well, his namesake. Those hits were harder, damaging the dummy more at more. Finally, the dummy couldn't take any more abuse and broke from it's base.
Evander stopped, dropping his shield and sword onto a nearby bench. He felt tired now, his arms like lead weights. Slowly, he pulled off his helmet and then released the fasteners for his breastplate. He pulled the heavy bronze armor off and stripped off his orange T-shirt, using it to towel off his face and head. After a few moments of towelling, Evander stopped, he could hear someone in the training area. Why hadn't he noticed? Had he been that focused on the dummy? Good thing this wasn't combat. "Hello?"
