Fixing the strawberry vines [Closed]

She looked up and smiled, "Oh, hey Addeline. Yeah, but you can just call me Addy. We're all siblings and cousins here, so there's no need to be formal. and it's nice to see you again, too." She looked back down at the vine and perked it up before standing up and brushing the dirt off her jeans and hands. "What are you doing out here?" I wouldn't think that you were the type to come out here in the hot sun and get down in the dirt for hours." she paused, thinking that her comment might have been a little offensive, so she tried to be a little nicer. "Are you just out here helping out with the harvest or just collecting some for yourself?"

She took the bottle and opened it, taking a big drink before twisting the cap back on and smiling gratefully at the younger camper. "Thanks. And yeah, especially for us Demeter kids, we hate seeing the plants like this and the few of us who are affected by nature, like me and how my mood and activeness change with the seasons, it's taking a toll on us. I just hope it rains soon. If we're gonna have a successful harvest this year, it needs to rain soon, and we need a LOT of it."

She tilted her head in confusion. "You mean an irrigation system?" She thought for a moment then smiled, "It could work, but we would need someway to pump it since the fields are higher than the lake. We'd also need some way to turn it on and off so we don't drown the plants. I'll talk to Mr. D and Chiron about it. It's a really good idea Addeline. If I was allowed to run things, i would have the Hephaestus cabin get working on it right away." she said, trying to give Addeline some feeling of reward, since it WAS a great idea. How had she not thought of it, she and her dad had used an irrigation system back on her family farm in Utah....it must have slipped her mind somehow.

She shook her head,"It's a great idea, but the plants need water during the day, when it's hottest, like us. We don't need water when it's cold, we need it when it's really hot. We could ask the poseidon kids to help us with pushing water up the pipes or have some kind of sucking force. We could ask the wind god kids to help us with that. I really don't know. That's why I'm going to talk with Chiron. He'll be able to help us further develop the idea. You could also improve it with some of your siblings, I bet they'll have great additions or tweaks that we could make to the idea."

She had a confused expression on her face when Addeline asked her that question. "Um...about half a foot. Why?" Why on earth did she need to know how deep the roots were? Then she realized why. Addeline was trying to get the irrigation system to water the roots directly, instead of watering the dirt around the roots.

She thought for a moment, "That could work, but the Hephaestus kids would need a LOT of advanced techniques that I don't think most of them even know yet. Ok, before we plan anything else, we need to talk to the Athena, Demeter, and Hephaestus cabins, plus Chiron. I'll see if I can have Chiron schedule a time that all three cabins can meet together. In the mean time, both of us will talk to our cabins and I'll tell the Hephaestus cabin so they can start sketching and mapping out plans for the irrigation system." She looked over at the sundial. Time for lunch already? Where had the time gone? "It was nice seeing you again Addeline. Maybe I'll see you at lunch. Talk to you later." she said as she left and headed towards the mess hall.
