Artemis Cabin (Closed)

I exited the Apollo cabin, greeted by a shining sun and blue skies, as I always was. I looked around, taking in camp for a few minutes. The buzz of Campers going about their daily camp routines was like natural music to my ears. My eyes caught on the cabin across from me. A silver building with silver curtains and carvings of wild animals all around. Word had hit camp that one of my aunts hunters was here, and being a son of Apollo, I figured the hunters of Artemis were like my cousins. Something made me want to say hi to her and check up on her. I knew it was just her, so I wondered if she was lonely without her sisters to keep her company. I skipped down the steps of the Apollo cabin and made my way across the U shape to greet my cousin. I practically skipped two steps when I jogged up to the door in excitement. I knocked on the door three times and my heart rate quickened. I hoped she wouldn't be disappointed to have honorary family like me. I knew I wasn't very impressive. I plastered a smile on my face anyway and waited for the door to open.

The girl standing in the door looked to be my age. She had light hair that framed her face nicely, and decorating her forehead was a silver tiara. I knew that meant she was Artemis's lieutenant. The girl gave off an intimidating vibe. I wasn't sure if she meant to or not, but a lot of people intimidated me so I shrugged off the feeling. I decided to stop standing in the doorway with nothing to say and held out my hand, which even to me seemed incredibly more tan compared to her pale skin tone.
"Hi," I greeted. "I'm Fletch Kealoha, son of Apollo. I just came to make sure you were settling in comfortably. I heard you didn't have your sisters with you... So I decided to come make sure you weren't lonely... After all, what are honorary cousins for?" I tried desperately to stop my ramble, but words started pouring out of my mouth uncontrollably. Who's idea was it to introduce yourself to people anyway? I asked myself. Yours, I mentally answered. I was just now realizing how bad I was at first impressions. I looked up at her, my smile fading to a nervous grin. I lifted my arm to scratch the back of my head nervously as I continued to hold my other hand out for a welcoming handshake.

The girl looked me up and down as she leaned against the door frame. I stuck one of my hands in my pockets and used the other one to rub my index finger and thumb on the edges of the strap connecting my violin case to my back.
"Hey, I've never had an honorary cousin either. You're my first," I said, my nervous grin turning into a more light-hearted and playful one. I leaned back on the silver railing of the cabin porch. "So, how are you liking camp so far? How long has it been since you've been here?" I decided to ask. I thought it would be slightly awkward if I just got up and left right after introducing myself so I decided my best route would be striking up a conversation.

I blinked, realizing that she might have zoned out on me. I couldn't get mad at her, it happened to me all the time. Sometimes when talking to people my demigod ADHD mind would focus on something about them and wouldn't let me stop thinking. The corners of my mouth turned up into a forgiving smile and I repeated myself with a lighthearted tone.
"How long has it been since you were last here?" I asked, a small chuckle to my voice. I thought I'd only repeat one question, as bombarding her with questions seemed like a rude thing to do. I always tried to stop myself from asking new people I met so many questions, but I wasn't very good at it. I was a curious guy, what can I say?

My hand lifted from my violin case strap to the beads that hung from the leather necklace around my neck. I twisted the purple and yellow beads on the string.
"Two years," I replied. I had only just recently reached my two year mark, and I was working now on surviving my third. The first year I had come to camp, they gave us a purple bead with the menacing eye of a leucrocuta, symbolizing the quest Luke, Roxy and Finn had gone on that year. The yellow one had a birdcage painted on it, symbolizing the trapped demigods, Satyrs and Nymphs Luke, Roxy, Finn and I had discovered when confronting Charlie. Camp was getting more and more dangerous the longer I stayed. Your first year was usually your quietest... At least for me it was. For some, that might not have been the case. My eyes lingered up to the tiara sitting neatly on the waterfall of light hair that fell from her head.
"So, what did you have to do to become Lieutenant?" I asked. My curiosity was taking over once again. I knew that 'Auntie Artemis' would only choose a hunter she thought was incredibly skilled and trustworthy for the role in leading her hunt.

I blinked in slight confusion. I had always thought that gender didn't make a person, and that we were all equal. I knew that Artemis and her hunters swore off men and love to become immortal, but what I hadn't known was just how much the hunters didn't like boys. I started to feel a little self conscious standing in her doorway, interrupting her day, but I tried to act confident. There were some things they were right about. If I knew anything about guys, it was that we could be impulsive and arrogant... Like Gary for example, the Camp Half-Blood bully from the Ares cabin. I definitely didn't think the hunters needed any male help on their team. They seemed quite capable to do everything themselves, from what I had heard about them, and I did respect them for that. I decided that she was trying to make a compliment, telling me I didn't seem like an idiotic guy. So I smiled in return.
"Hey, thanks," I said. "I try not to be idiotic." Though it doesn't always work out in my favor... I thought to myself, but I kept that thought to myself. "I bet I couldn't do half the things I've heard you guys can do though." I continued. I knew with my balance issues, and naturally clumsy self I wouldn't last five minutes with the hunters of Artemis.

I wasn't sure why she kept second guessing herself in the middle of her sentences. I found the huntresses of Artemis interesting, I liked hearing about them.
"No, please, go on," I prompted eagerly. I realized she might not want to, so I took a step back in my approach. "Y'know, if you want to." I added. I found myself wanting to know her adventures and her stories. She had probably lived for such a long time, being recruited to Lieutenant and all must mean that she's the best of the best. I wanted to know what she had faced, and how she had survived. I wanted to know how she had sworn off love and men so easily. I only wished it would be that easy for me. Love for another person wasn't something I had ever felt before, unless it was for my grandparents, but at this point and time in my life swearing off boys would be quite helpful. At least that would make it easier to stop liking the one that I did. In return, I would even be able to become immortal. That wasn't something I really wanted though, to outlive all of my friends. Again, I wouldn't be able to handle what the hunters did. I was good with a bow, that was about it for traits we had in common. I pulled myself from my thoughts and payed attention to her.
