I smiled at her compliment. Making new friends was always a great activity, especially if they didn't mind my constant ins and outs of conversations.
"Thanks," I replied, holding my smile. "You can always call me a friend," I added. I looked up at the clock when she did, realizing I didn't have much more time here. I looked down at my drawing, as unfinished as it was when I had first gotten here. I sighed quietly and flipped the black moleskin cover of my sketchbook over to close the book. I tried to remember what my brother had organized first for us today. Gods, I was supposed to be able to control memory retrieval. I tried to focus on remembering, sorting through my groggy brain. The image of my mythology class with Chiron text book appeared nudged at my mind, helping me remember that I had fallen asleep before I could do the "homework" Chiron had assigned. This would be the 6th consecutive week in a row I had done that, and he had warned if I hadn't done my homework this week, he'd make me climb the rock wall. A flash of panic rose in my chest, and I sat up straight, possibly faster than ever.
I smiled at Kiara, not wanting to be rude.
"Sorry about this, but I just remembered some mythology class homework I've forgotten and Chiron is totally not gonna be chill this time," I explained. "I gotta go, but I'll see you later." I got up and collected my things, making sure to collect my coffee cup also. I'd be needing a refill on the strongest stuff we had back at the cabin.
"It's been super rad talking to you," I said, holding up a peace sign, once again, as I left the Arts and crafts building. "Keep it up with your rainbows!"
With that, I stumbled groggily, moved quickly only by my fear of the rock wall.
