Full Name: Nebraska Jäger (Jäger is pronounced like this)
Age: 16
Description or Playby: Ashley Greene
Nebraska has grey-green eyes and wavy brown hair that cascades to the middle of her back. She has a petite frame, standing at 5’5 and has a lean and agile body. She weighs 110 lbs. Nebraska has small dotted scars on her left wrist, where she wears her favorite magical bracelet. She only wears skirts or dresses when she absolutely has to. Her ideal outfit consists of a loose shirt, jeans or shorts (depending on the weather), and sneakers—preferably Chuck Taylors. She sometimes lines her eyes with black eyeliner when she feels like it. Her hair is either in a ponytail or just simply hanging free.
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Olympian Parent: Demeter
Mortal Parent: Hadrian Jäger
Personality: Nebraska is usually a straight-forward person and ruthlessly blunt, but most of the time she only talks to someone if they talk to her first. She can be really sarcastic at times. Most people tend to dislike her due to her smart mouth. She also has a short temper and can be very violent when pushed to her limits. Nebraska sometimes tries to calm herself down if she thinks she’s getting angry over something not worthwhile, such as arguing against impossibly stubborn people. She can also be somewhat self-centered, not really caring about others unless it had something to do with herself, which makes her appear heartless at times. The reason she feels this way is a part of her defensive mechanism though. She thinks that if she’s careless about others, then it wouldn't hurt her much if something happened to them. Nebraska can also fake emotions well, so it would be convenient for the waterworks when some great aunt’s uncle died, or when she accidentally broke a window at a mortal school and the principal needed some convincing. She's the type of person that's usually only nice to people she's comfortable with. She can become a different person altogether—thoughtful and kindhearted. Those who know Nebraska well would say she's pretty easygoing, and her loyalty never wavers once she believes in someone. Her adventurous side shows up at times, especially when she's alone with nature. She loves climbing tall trees and dangling upside-down from branches. She loves heights as well, and hopes to go sky-diving or bungee jumping some day, when monsters don't attack the very moment you step foot out of a 1-mile radius from camp. Nebraska’s favorite season is autumn, mainly because she enjoys the rain and (ironically) stepping on the crunchy fallen leaves. She likes rain a lot, and would usually run around barefoot in the rain for no reason at all. She has a sweet tooth and has taken an extreme liking to desserts and candies. Unbelievably, Nebraska actually has an artistic side that she keeps well hidden from most people she meets. One of her hobbies are drawing natural landscapes or flowers. She can usually be found up in a random tree sketching in a notebook. Nebraska dislikes people that talk too much; she finds them annoying. She doesn't like it when people are physically too close to her and finds it very uncomfortable when people touch her, even if it's out of friendliness.
Fatal Flaw: Independence/stubbornness - Nebraska refuses to seek help from others unless it’s the last resort. She tries to solve her own problems, or problems she thinks she caused or played a part of. She feels this way because whenever she told her dad about small problems—like when the milk was spoiled, or when she needed new shoes—he always told her to ‘solve her own problems’ because he had bigger problems—like saving the environment.
History: As a child, Nebraska lived with her dad in New York City. She attended a mortal elementary school there for three years before moving to a different school. The first school she enrolled in was normal—no weird teachers or anything. She could read English without any struggles, and she didn’t misbehave too often. But her dad insisted she change schools because it would be ‘safer’. She didn’t understand how it would be safer to change schools. Nebraska wasn’t happy about it, but she didn’t object either. Of course, the nine year old would miss her friends, but the idea of being in a new place and meeting new people excited her too. But then abnormal things started happening in her new school. She fell off a tree from the highest branch once, but landed on the grass and a bed of flowers perfectly fine, with only a few minor scrapes and bruises that healed soon after. Another time, she found a serpent (Demeter’s sacred animal) in her school bag. The serpent didn’t hurt her or anything; it just slithered away. Nebraska also began to have trouble reading. She could still read a few words here and there, so she continued school with some difficulty, but it was nothing she couldn’t handle. Her grades were decent enough to pass.
In middle school, she couldn't seem to concentrate on the words that she was supposed to read—or anything much for that matter—and even when she was sure she focused enough, the letters would seemingly swirl around and rearrange themselves. She told her dad about this, and they found out that Nebraska was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. School was hard for her, and her grades were gradually dropping. She managed to scrape a pass in 7th grade. When she turned 14, however, her dyslexia only got worse. For the most part, it was as if English was a different language altogether.
When Nebraska was 15, she managed to convince her dad to take her along with him while he worked on his job as an environmentalist. Whenever she asked her dad about her ever so mysterious mother, he always grew tense and claimed that her mother had deserted them and that they were better off without her. This would often confuse Nebraska, but she wasn’t too upset without having a mom. Because Nebraska was now often traveling with her dad, she grew to become independent. Her dad would attend meetings and do whatever work he was doing, while she roamed the streets of whatever country she was in. Despite being in many different places, Nebraska never really learned any other language than English. She could hold short conversations when she was younger, but she only remembers a few words here and there now. When she first started exploring on her own, she had seen strange people, strange things. She eventually convinced herself that these peculiar things were just a part of the foreign country’s culture.
Apart from exploring on her own, she’d go plant trees with her dad, go on hikes, went camping, and do many other eco-friendly things. Throughout backpacking and traveling, she grew to love heights from climbing trees and beautiful natural landscapes. There was a time when she was into photography, but after her dad refused to buy her a new camera after her old one fell from the cliff they were hiking on, she gradually lost interest. After that, she would sometimes draw the places she’d been to if she deemed them nice enough.
After her first summer at Camp Half Blood, Nebraska’s dad decided to go on a skiing trip for her winter break. And so they went. But Nebraska had never been much of a snow person, and she slipped on a steep slope, falling and hitting her head on a rock. Luckily, she survived this encounter with a broken rib and a few twisted limbs, but she couldn’t seem to remember the details of what happened in the past few months. Her memories were fuzzy. She could remember the big pictures—like the fact that she was a demigod, her mother was freaking Demeter, and there was a place that was safe for her—but not the details, such as how she got to that safe place and how long she’d been there. Nebraska remembers her first time at camp very vaguely because of this. Confused and annoyed, she demanded her father tell her how her mother could be a goddess—and a Greek one at that. Weren't Greek gods, like, dead or gone or whatever?
So, her father sat her down and told the tale of how he had met her divine mother. Hadrian had just started his occupation as an environmentalist, and there was this woman that was a co-worker. She'd called herself Ivy. They were partners in their work, often doing tasks together. Hadrian admired the way she could to help plants survive even when they were on the brink of death.
Weapons: A bracelet made from twigs that becomes a celestial bronze katana when unraveled the correct way. If it isn't unraveled properly, it will grow poison-tipped thorns. The poison can make a demigod disoriented or nauseated if a small amount somehow gets into their bloodstream, but too much of it can render them unconscious for about 2 hours. Despite all of its effects, the poison is not lethal.
Abilities:
- Chlorokinesis: manipulation and control over plants.
Years at camp: 1
Year-rounder or summer-only camper: She was a summer-only camper last year, but she's a year-rounder now.
