Sunshine Gesatare-Reel - The Absentminded Child
--
Fire. It was one of the four main elements, the one known for it’s destructive ways. It has killed plenty of both plant and human life. However, when Sunshine looks at fire she sees life. It’s hard to explain to someone who doesn’t have a mindset like her, but she truly sees fire as a majestic thing. She watches as it flickers when the wind blows and she’s simply fascinated by it’s beauty and power. The hues and the light give off the beginnings of a shadow, but not a full one as it is only a few hours past midday. The fire glowed and it was hypnotizing the longer Sunny starred.
Snapping out of her haze when one of the other hunters shouted about her missing something from her bag and was wondering if anyone had seen it. Looking around, Sunny realized she had been all alone staring at the fire. Must’ve looked odd. She shrugged it off.
Getting up from her spot on the ground, she began to idly wonder around. She only joined the hunt a few months ago and was still getting used to things. She sometimes missed her old life like her moms or hockey (She was currently decked out in her personal jersey, the number 11 on the back, right under her last name). But she had a new family and she loved them all already. They were welcoming and they’ve helped her enhance her skill.
They were currently stationed in Camp Halfblood due to Artemis’s request. It was nice to be in her old second home. She knew the others didn't exactly enjoy it, but she paid them no mind. She really loved this camp, and no one would bring her mood down.
Sunny dusted off her sweatpants as she walked away from her sisters, giving parting smiles to those who looked at her. They simply waved and gave a smile back. She continued walking, passing through the border (as the hunters decided to camp out for the first few nights before moving into their Lady’s cabin) she breathed in the scent of the air from the mess hall. Letting out a tiny giggle, she began her way towards the cabins.
Sunshine arrived at the cabin for her mother (Cabin 18) in what seemed like seconds. Slipping off her shoes before she opened the door that always seemed brand new, she allowed the soft and plush carpet engulf her tired feet. The Hebe cabin was simple on the outside, it was white with blue painted shutters to windows and even had a little porch with two rocking chairs. The porch never creaked and the floor boards were painted gray. The roof had shingles and it was almost like a tiny country home.
On the inside it was also simple. There is white carpet and pastel blue walls with simple black designs on them. Sunshine painted some of the designs on herself. The beds were also white with blue pillows and she made her way to the back bunk where she sat down on her old bed. Everything looked the same, as if nothing aged. Even the two desks that were at least 100 years old, seemed as if they were built from scratch the day before.
There was a tiny altar where they could pray to Hebe as well. A small sacrifice fire that always seemed to burn was in the center of the altar. It burned just as brightly as the fire she had stared at not 15 minutes before. Her mother truly went all out on keeping everything looking new. She patted the bed a single time as she rose. She would need to visit her half-sibling at one point as she had no idea where they were at the moment.
As Sunny was about to leave, someone knocked at the door. It was odd, because she knew her sibling wouldn't knock as they knew they could just enter. So she went to the door and answered it. She felt a smile warm her face, as she saw it as someone she did not know.
“Heyyyy! What brings you to my old humble abode away from my actual humble abode? Do I like, owe you a friendship bracelet? I kinda left for the hunt really suddenly, so i didn't get to hand them all out.” She trailed off with a frown. She still had to give them out to a couple of the Apollo kids, one of the Athena kids and all of the Demeter kids. It wouldn't take her long to give out, but she would need to do it before they packed up to go wherever they go next. She was pretty sure they would be hunting somewhere in Virginia.
