Rolling green hills, really awesome fluffy kiwi birds... and I heard you can go into one of those zorb balls there. Oh my god those look like the ultimate hamster wheels of infinite entertainment.
Atalantis mumbled something quietly to herself, i wasn't sure what she said, but she left a look of melancholy traced into her face. I frowned. I welcomed camp as a home to me, and I felt guilty when someone couldn't share the same view as me.
"Hey!" I straightened up, suddenly getting a stupid idea. "How about I help you feel more at home? What are some of your favorite things about your home?"
If spongebob can recreate Texaas, I can recreate New Zealand for her. At least to some degree.

A smirk formed on my face as I stood up from my sitting place, stretching my arms with a satisfying pop.
"Welp, not a lot of star gazing happening in broad daylight, but you'll get a kick of the stars over here if you've ever seen them! I don't know if the magical border can filter through smog or this is just a very clean area, but you can see almost every constellation over here! I wouldn't worry about wearing your PJs, I accidentally went to the stables in my PJ's once. Worst decision ever, not only was I grossly hot underneath the thick layer of clothing that are my pyjamas, but my PJ's smelt like horse crap for weeks!"
I shook my head. What a dumb person that I am.
"But I mean, if you want to get changed... or just keep your PJs on, we can make it to the stables. Have you ever ridden a pegasus before? Now there's a perfect sight seeing view."
I turned to Atalantis, waiting for an answer. I hoped I could ride with her, that was the perfect combination of our fathers being able to work together into one animal. It might also encourage her to participate more in Camp if she figures out her powers allow her to talk to horses. I've seen Poseidon kids do that kinda stuff before. I've only been able to talk to a Falcon once, although he was quite helpful.

I laughed. "Good idea." I told her as she retreated back to the Poseidon cabin to get changed. I myself headed in the direction of the stables, slightly nervous since my last experience with them, where I had fell off their backs and almost paralyzed myself. I shuddered. Oh well, I thought. That's how it usually is when you're a demigod.


I leaned back against the stable doors, listening to the gentle neighs and whinnies that the pegasi made inside the large barn and I thought no way were those guys able to almost kill me in flight. A soft smile played on my lips as I wondered if they were talking to each other, and what they were saying. If Atalantis was in tune with her Poseidon powers, then she'd be able to tell me. I noticed her in the distance with a new pair of jeans on and I gave her a grin, waving her over.
"Alright, here's the pegasi." I pushed open the stable doors revealing the stalls of magnificent winged horses we were able to ride if our schedule said 'stables' on it.
I walked in, leading the way through the pegasi stalls. A few of them were out during free time by some of the more equine-inclined Demeter campers, but a lot of them were confined within their stall. Some of them had their wings stretched out and flapping on the ground, eager and impatient to be outside. I walked past Joker, the white pegasus that I had fallen off of, and I swear if horses could glare, he was doing a pretty good job.
"Some Pegasi that are pretty easy riders are Notch over here," I told her, pointing at a quiet white pegasus with brown spots. "And Omega." I pointed towards a gray pegasus whose wings were outstretched as it neighed at us. "But it really is your choice, they're all pretty obedient. Except Equinox over there, she's very arrogant, not a lot of people get to ride her unless you're at the stables often."
I turned towards the black and white pegasus, who neighed and whinnied at the sound of her name, as if she was proudly claiming her title. I figured I would take Notch or Omega after my last ride, Equinox would most likely be forever untouchable to me.

"I'm not too sure. Past campers maybe, when they were born maybe they did a name raffle..." I trailed off.
Atalantis had paused after her question, as if she was listening to something far off and offensive. I raised my eyebrows as I studied her facial expressions to more information to what she was listening to. Was she listening to the horses? She didn't look too excited to be talking to them. Did they insult my hair?
"Are you hearing the horses?" I asked her, intrigued. "What are they saying?"
I looked around the stables at all the horses, who all seemed to begin to pay attention to the both of us, as all their heads were turned towards us. The stables began getting rowdy as more horses began whinnying and neighing and all of a sudden it didn't feel so empty anymore. Maybe Atalantis is a celebrity since her dad's Poseidon and they all want to talk to her. I pouted, wondering why I haven't been crowded by the crows that visit camp ever so often.

I frowned at Equinox, who just snorted in my direction. You'd think she'd be a little bit more decent in her manner of speech when it came to children of Poseidon. I noticed Atalantis had approached Notch, so I used that as the signal to approach Omega. He pranced on his hooves when he saw me and I could only imagine what excitable thoughts that went through his mind. I hoped maybe he could convince Atalantis that speaking to horses was super cool, so far Equinox just seemed to deflate that little bubble of hope I had.
"Good question." I responded as I opened Omega's gate, realizing I didn't really come here often and wasn't as experienced as I'd like to be.
I was bowled over as soon as it was unlocked and it was a miracle I hadn't been trampled over as Omega ran right past me into the field outside. I groaned as I fell backwards in the muddy ground filled with dirt and pegasus feces. You'd think you'd want to sell them on eBay for a couple hundred bucks for biological matter from a mystical creature but by the smell I know understand why the Hermes cabin never took on that business opportunity. Maybe this was why I didn't usually pick pegasus riding as an activity for the Zeus cabin. I rolled forward and picked myself up, looking at Atalantis with a sheepish grin.
"He's usually more... stable." I coughed out as I ran out into the fenced area in hopes of catching my ride before he could fly away. Fortunately Omega was true to his role as the tame pegasus and stayed on the ground for me. I scrambled on top of him, an easier feat than usual as the easy pegasi liked to fold their wings in a position that made it easy to grab onto and pull yourself up. Now that I was on Omega's gray back I trotted towards the stables again.
"So, uh. There's not a lot of harnesses here. I mean, you could use your battle helmet if you want but I'm sure that won't be necessary for a Poseidon kid." I called out to Atalantis.
I realized I wasn't as helpful as I thought.
I slid off the pegasus, giving him a quick pat on the head as code for 'stay' and walked over to Notch and Atalantis.
"If you wanna unlock the door, the pegasi usually let their wings down and help you climb back on. If you need any help I could give you a boost, I think there's a stool or something over here..." I mumbled out the last few lines, not particularly sure where the stool was.
I'm sure it was here somewhere. Hopefully left untouched by the rears of the other pegasi.
"Then just give them a hard tap in the ribs with the heel of your foot. Not too hard, obviously, but they're big guys and need a less subtle reminder to get going. Now, it's harder to steer without reins, but they understand if you lean and apply more pressure to the left, they'll veer left, and vice versa with the right side. Same thing with stopping, just lean back and they'll get the idea. If they're not responding press against they're side. If they're really not responding say 'woah' super load. For some reason sounding like you're on drugs makes pegasi pay attention to you. Or you could just tell them, that could work too."
I tried to give my best explanation from what I had been taught the first time I came here, and I hoped I hadn't bored her or complicated things.

I gave her a mischievous smile. I just hoped it was as much of a rollercoaster for her as it was for me when I first went pegasus flying.
"Just follow my lead." I told her in my best attempt to act other worldly.
I might as well throw a cheap smoke screen at her if I was trying to convince her to be mystical, but might as well play along with it. I tapped my heels against the pegasus's sides and Omega's wings sprung up again as it came beating down against the grassy field, propelling us up in the air. I clutched the hairs on the pegasus' mane to keep a sturdy grip, trying hard not to show how nervous I was with the dizzying heights as the stables began to shrink in the distance. I leaned forward and the pegasus tore across the sky like a jet. I wrapped my arms around its neck this time, my teeth chattering against the lean muscle of its neck as it dove down and rose back up. I refused to do any loopdy loops after last time's incident and I lead Atalantis up towards the clouds, above the forest where even the long old trees couldn't reach us. You could see past Half Blood Hill, overlooking the valleys and winding roads this side of long island had to offer. It was an amazing sight from this height, and I hoped Atalantis could reach me and enjoy the view.
