Full name: Richard Mackenney
Age: 15
Eye color: Sea-green
Hair color: Black
Distinctive features: Scars all up and down his arms and legs, one scar under his right eye.
Height: 5'8
Weight: 142 lbs
God parent: Keto
Mortal parent: Sean Mackenney (missing in action)
Personality: Untrusting of other demigods and not particularly fond of most mortals resulting in him coming off as moody or sullen.
History: Sean was the last of a dying breed; every now and then a mortal comes along, with clear sight but without anyone there to explain what they're seeing. Things begin to lose their sense, the human begins to go a little crazy...and they decide if the world isn't going to fit into the box its supposed to go into, they're going to make it fit! This was the case for Sean, one of the last sea monster hunters.
Most people thought Sean was insane... but he managed to get a crew together. When paid enough money, some people just won't ask questions. His crew just sort of assumed he was an illegal whaler, which wasn't necessarily far from the truth. Sean's vendetta against the deep lasted for 6 long months, until finally the sea had had enough. The boat was sunk, the crew, devoured, and the captain...well he was never seen again. But not before the mistress of the deep took a little something from him.
Sean's young son, Richard, was always alone...there was a time, maybe just a feeling, way back in his memory, when he hadn't been alone, but the 5 year old had been living on the street for as long as he could remember. Heck, he had learned to speak by listening to conversations he heard out here. People, especially kids, gave him a wide berth. But the weirdest thing was when the monsters would come...people didn't believe him about the monsters, they'd say things like "No silly, thats just a flock of pigeons" or "Nah kid. Snakes that big don't live in sewers" or even "Lion? What lion?" Usually the beasts were confused when they looked at him...before they started attacking. It didn't take long for Richard to realize that most monsters needed to be avoided at all costs.
He wandered for years, mostly on the coast line, somehow making his way from Miami Florida to Charleston South Carolina by the time he turned seven. That was when he finally met his family. He had been running, and running hard. A pair of large bronze dogs were right on his tail, baying and snapping at his heels as he ran. He turned a corner and ran right passed a big guy coming out of some small shop's back door with a cardboard box. He looked up, just in time to see one of the dogs leaping at him...and he brought up his fist to slam right into the dog's muzzle. "Bad!" He snapped at the beast...though it was tough for the mechanical mutt to hear him with it's face caved in. Its pack mate let out a whine, glancing first at the big guy, then at Rich, before turning tail and fleeing, leaving only a puddle of oil on the ground to show where it had been. The big guy looked down at Rich, frowning, his crooked teeth sticking out of his mouth at odd angles. Rich realized a second too late that the guy only had one big mossy green eye.
"You lost...? Alone...?" Asked the big guy. Richard could only nod stupidly. The big guy smiled and picked him up, letting him sit on his shoulders. "Not anymore!" He stooped down to pick up the remains of the metal hound, placing it in his box. The big guy, who he later learned was named Cleon, was a cyclops, no big surprise there. He, like many cyclopes around the country, was an orphan of sorts, but the cyclopes in Charleston were unique in that they've banded together for safety. Cleon, it turned out, worked at the pawn shop Richard had run passed, fixing watches and broken tvs and taking whatever he couldn't fix back home with him to rework. He was, as it turned out, the youngest of their family of four cyclopes.
Cleon took Richard to a house in the suburbs. Ducking down to avoid the door way, the cyclops called"I home! I have friend!" The small noises from inside stopped almost immediately. Cleon put down the box of scraps first, before he lifted Richard off his shoulders and put him in front of the other three cyclopes. The two big males were both balled, both with a dark blue eye, so large they made Cleon look like scrawny, but it was the female that took charge and marched in. She glared down at Richard, scrutinizing him with her big brown eye. She frowned and sniffed a few times, then she glared up at Cleon. "You don't have a friend!" She snapped. Richard could feel his blood turning to ice...but that was short lived, because the female cyclops' face broke into a huge grin. "You have a new brother! Now go wash for dinner!"
Richard lived with the Cyclopes of Charleston for years...it took them about a month to realize that he wasn't a cyclops himself, but that hardly mattered to them by that point. He was their baby brother and that's all that mattered. There were other monster attacks, but the family made sure he was well protected. They even made him a celestial bronze weapon to use on them when one of the family couldn't be around to protect him, and they insisted he practice with it daily. On the day of his 13th birthday, they were given a bit of a surprise...as they were cutting the cake a holographic shark popped into existence above his head. The family ooo'd and ahh'd as they watched the creature swim around him, before disappearing into vapor.
With the monsters around him masking his scent, it took years just for a satyr to happen across him...and even then it was entirely by chance. The satyr insisted that Richard come with him to New York, to visit the camp...at first Richard was hesitant, he had never been away from his family before...but the Cyclopes had urged him to go...if only for a little while. It would do him some good to be with other half bloods, they said.
Non-Mortal family: Cleon (Adopted brother), Jaxon (Adopted Brother), Philippos (Adopted brother), Odette (Adopted Sister)
