Xavier is running trying to keep up with his friend Nicholas who he just found out was part goat. They were running from Nicholas' brother Patrick who had gone missing a month earlier. (At the time Xavier didn't know he was being kidnapped and brainwashed) Xavier could not process what was going on. It was his twelfth birthday and it was turning out to be pretty crummy. He was super excited about finally opening the letter from the father he had never met. Only to find out that he was being forced to leave his mom and come to some camp year round. Not only that but he still hasn't learned a thing about his father. So he was traveling to this camp on a bus once he got off of the bus he realized that he saw Nicholas' brother Patrick. He thought Nick would be happy to see him but it was quite the opposite. Nick grabbed Xavier and made the bleating noise he made when he was nervous. He then said loudly "RUN!" So Xavier took off. As they were running Xavier asked numerous questions that all got the same response. "Just keep running!" So he did they get to the woods and Xavier stops suddenly. " I'm not going in there." He says. Nick turns around and bleats again this time in frustration. He then begins to take of his pants. "These are annoying me." He says. Xavier looks down and stares. Is is completely speechless. Nick grabs Xavier and pulls him into the woods. Patrick has now gotten fairly close to them. Nick asks suddenly, " Do you still have the Stamp and box cutter your mom gave you?" Xavier replies quickly. "Yes but quick question. Why do you have such hairy legs?" Nick then says, "There's no time. Get out the stamp and lick it." Xavier stops and questions Nick. "Why?" Nick turns around and screams "Just do it!!!" Xavier reaches in his pocket pulls out the stamp and licks it. He is looking down and staring at it when it suddenly grows heavy in his hand and transforms into a shield about two feet in diameter. Just at that moment Patrick runs around the corner and is staring Xavier in the eyes viciously. Xavier looks down and notices he too has hairy legs and hooves. He looks back up and Patrick starts running towards him. "Throw it! Throw it now!!" Nick yells. Almost immediately Xavier respond by launching the shield discus style into Patrick's gut leaving him motionless. "What's going on Ni..." Xavier begins to ask as he turns around. But Nick is already grabbing Xavier and pulling him towards the top of a hill. When they get there they notice a huge camp and run towards it. "What is this place?" Xavier asks. Nick looks into Xavier's black eyes and says, " This is Camp Half-Blood. When they reach the border of the camp they are met by an older camper who is running towards him.

I sprinted across the field in long bursts, my eyes widened at the commotion near the border of the camp. I had just been at the strawberry fields; my friend from the Demeter cabin, Morgan, wanted to bake a cake for one of her half sibling's birthdays, and I had been the errand boy tasked to pick off the juiciest strawberries from the patch for the final toppings on the cake. In return, she promised me a slice. I had been salivating just thinking about the strawberry chocolate cake that I could get my hands on soon until I heard a bunch of yelling near the border. Birds flew out of the trees in panicked response, it was all very dramatic, but older demigods had grown accustomed for that to be the signal that a new camper has made it to camp. It was usually a near death experience, with a monster at their heels so I began to run fast to make sure they had gotten their safely. I pressed my hand against the teal square in my checkered wristband and in a shimmer of light it turned into my celestial bronze sword, Keravnos. I stumbled a bit, as I ran up hill until I could see the rest of the forest that wasn't in the protection of camp borders sweep out from under my field of view. to my far left I saw two young boys running into the invisible border, meaning they must be demigods. I ran over to them, my sword lowered to make sure they didn't think I was ambushing them and approached them, sweaty and out of breath by the time I was a few feet near them. I realized one must have been a satyr, considering he had bushy legs and cloven hooves from below his shirt hem. I looked to the other boy, who must've been the demigod the satyr escorted to camp. He had intriguing dark brown hair that fell in curls across his face, and his dark eyes reminded me of one of my friends from the Hermes cabin, who had seemingly black eyes. They both looked banged up and out of breath and I peered over their shoulders.
"Is there someone following you? Are you alright?" I huffed out, my chest still hurting from the run here.
First thing's first was to check to make sure nothing was there. I usually wouldn't worry, since we were protected by an invisible barrier, but there was no such thing as too catious when you're a demigod.

I took a few heavy breaths before looking up at the older kid standing in front of us. My eyes opened wildly as I turned and looked at Nick who was panting heavily as well. I then looked back at the camper and spoke quickly, " Yes it's one of my friends or at least I think it was. He was chasing us. I was coming here like the letter told me to. We got off the bus and Patrick was there but he shouldn't have been he's been missing. He started following us like some kind of animal. No offense Nick."
Nick nodded his head slightly still trying to catch his breath. " We got to the woods. Then there was the legs. And the stamp and the shield thingy. It's all just so confusing. Like nick has hooves and......hey you don't have hooves do you?" I asked as I arched an eyebrow and took a step backwards.

I gave out a half hearted laugh at the boy's satyr accusation, but my eyes were still fixed to the eerily silent woods ahead of him. I tightened my grip against my sword.
"There's a lot to explain." I began. "I'm not a satyr though, I'm a demigod, like you. This is a place where you'll be safe from.... Things like Patrick."
Whoever Patrick was. I thought to myself.
I wasn't inclined to stick around and find out.
"Not too sure what exactly the shield and stamp things are, probably some magical weapon someone gave you. there's a lot of those." I explained further.
Chiron probably sent the letter, he has a knack for keeping track of demigods this way.
"Di Immortales." I muttered out from under my breath as I saw a shape clamber out of the woods who I could only guess was the infamous 'Patrick'.
I knew we had a border at our side, but I raised my sword as a precaution.
"What is he?" I asked, my eyes widened as he came closer to us.

I turned towards the woods to see Patrick limping out. I breathed in heavily and turned Nick around. "Oh my gods." He said. I turned back towards the camper and said "Trouble. That's who we were running from. Its Nick's older brother. He's a goat guy too. The only difference is he's a lot more meaner. What's going on? What do we do?" I asked? I looked up at the camper and saw that he had a very determined look on his face like he was thinking of what to do next. I then grabbed Nick and pulled him behind the camper and stood there as I waited for him to respond. Patrick was getting closer and with every step he took I grew more and more terrified. I knew that if someone didn't do something soon, we would all be in for a lot of trouble.

"No way." I muttered out, my voice barely audible.
It can't be.... but there was no other possibilities. The satyr must have been brainwashed by our not-so-great friend, Charlie. He either escaped from the camp forest, or he might have followed the boy from that hideout Leslie was talking about, the camp Charlie made in New York. Either way he was trouble, the borders would let him in; he wasn't a monster.
"Where's your shield thing? We might need it." I told the boy, my voice was louder this time.
I took a step forward so my whole body was in between the boys and Patrick.
Patrick began to run at us, a bludgeon in hand and a sad pain shot through me. His face seemed so familiar. I swear I've seen him around camp at the dining pavilion at the Dionysus table with all the other satyrs. I didn't want to hurt him, I really didn't, but the feeling didn't seem all too mutual. I twisted my sword in a way that the blunt end was facing him. If I used enough force to knock him out, we can restrain him somehow and not have to kill him. I had no idea what I was going to use for the restraining part, but I was going to have to think of that later. Patrick's damaged hobble began to turn into a sprint, his face was wild like a madman and his pupils were slits. I ran forward at him, momentum at my side and spun to deflect his club and take a swipe at his face. He stumbled back turning his back on me as he tried keeping himself afoot. He was crouched on the ground, his hands covering his face. I began to take a cautious approach to him, I could see blood trickle down his curly hair, that was matted down to his forehead with sweat and grime. Panic rose to my throat. Maybe I hit him too hard. I stepped closer, my hands out and my sword raised. With a spastic move of his body Patrick sprung up and his hooves made contact with my stomach with a devastating kick. I stumbled back, gasping for air as the wind got kicked out of me and I was temporarily blinded by spots swimming across my vision.

I watched quietly without a single breath at the bravery of the camper. I couldn't believe that he would do what he just did for a kid that he just met. It was at that moment that something inside me changed. It had suddenly felt like I knew this guy forever. I slowly reached inside of my pocket and felt the box cutter. I remembered the camper saying something about magical weapons and wondered if this too was a weapon. I pulled it out and slid the black clip upward. Just like the stamp it to seemed to grow heavier in my hand before it transformed. It elongated into a sword about two and a half feet long from tip to hilt. I was astounded and shocked for a moment but realized there wasn't much time I took the sword by the handle and launched it javelin style, a technique I had learned in PE at school, into the goat guy's arm. When it connected it made him fly backwards until the goat guy was stuck between the sword and a tree. He was scrambling but the sword had a firm hold on him so he could not escape.

I fell on my knees, squirming around like a fish full of water until air slowly filled my lungs again. I took deep exasperated breaths as I regained my bearings. I looked onward to see Patrick yelling in pain as a sword cut through his forearm and into a tree, rendering him incapable of movement. That looked painful, but I was glad no one was killed in the time that I was useless. I knit my eyebrows together in confusion. Where had that sword from from? I grunted as I lifted myself up, my abdomen screaming in pain.
"That's gonna bruise." I hissed out.
I turned around in the direction where my sword was thrown to the younger demigod. My eyes widened.
"Holy hellhounds, did you throw that?" I asked, slightly impressed. "You have some great aim. How many weapons do you have up that sleeve of yours?"
I could continue praising the boy but the satyr's wails of pain brought me back to the real situation. How are we supposed to get him to stop fighting? I ran over to the tree and took the bludgeon he had dropped on the ground, giving it to Nick the satyr. I turned back to Patrick and noticed that his eyelids were fluttering, as if on an internal battle to stay open.
"Okay good news and bad news." I called out. "Good news is that he's about to pass out from blood loss. Bad news; blood loss can be fatal."
I didn't know whether or not to dislodge the sword from the tree and Patrick's arm. That would just speed up the blood loss.
I turned to the young boy with pleading eyes. "There's a large blue house over that hill over there. Please, find whoever is in there and tell them to get a medic; it's an emergency. Nick? gather some leaves just in case this gets messy and we need to cover the wound."
I felt bad bossing people I had just met around, but I wanted to keep an eye on Patrick, and I needed all the help I could get.

I nodded my head as I headed off towards the house. As I did I found that there were a lot of campers running around doing various activities. When I passed by some waved. I waved back. Others just stared. I waved at them but they continued to stare. I Finally made it to the house and knocked on the door. As I waited for an answer I put my hand in my pocket and noticed that two papers of some sort were in there. It was the stamp from earlier on and the letter from my father. I opened the letter and read it again.

"Dear Xavier,
I know this may sound weird but it is time for you to leave. Not just leave school. But time for you to leave your house. I assure you that this is the best thing for you. And the ones that you love. When you open this show it to your mother. She will call the friend that will help you get to a special camp that you will attend year round. I promise your mother will be kept safe. I wish I could say the same for you, but sadly I cannot. Stapled to the back of this letters are instructions to the camp. Your Friend Nick will lead the way. When you get there give this letter to a man named Chiron. He will know what to do from there. Your life is just beginning. Son, I love you.

From, Your father."

As he finished reading, the door to the big blue house opened.

I stood at the entrance of the infirmary, violin and violin bow in hand, looking down at a younger boy I had never seen before. Things had been quiet in the infirmary that day. I had been singing to my very sick friend Finn to try and keep her going another day, using some Apollo child magic. Playing my violin always helped me get into it. The boy looked tired and sweaty, like he had just been running a long distance. His black eyes reminded me so much of Finn it shot me through the chest like an arrow fired from a bow. Her eyes hadn't looked like that in ages. I tried to stop gaping at the boy, who was probably feeling pretty awkward under my stare.
"U-um hello," I said, trying not to sound too surprised to see him. "Are you okay?" I hoped he wasn't hurt. I took a wild guess that he had just arrived here. Had he found his way around camp all by himself? Had nobody helped him? Where was his Satyr? All these questions raced through my mind, but I jogged myself back to reality and waited for the young boys reply.

I took a couple of seconds to breath before I answered the boys question. "Yeah I'm fine but we need medical treatment around the border. I don't have time to explain everything but the quick rundown is that my goatfriend and I were being chased by another goat guy except this goat guy was crazy. Then I threw a sword into his arm and another camper told me to come here and get a medic. Its a huge emergency. We need to go. Like NOW!" I looked back towards the woods several times as I waited for the camper to respond.

I blinked, taking in everything the younger boy was telling me. When he urged me on how urgent the emergency was, I sprung to action.
"Right, okay!" I said. I ducked into the infirmary and started going through everything I would need. Nectar, bandages and a needle and string. My hands shook slightly as I realized that I would have to for the first time sew a wound shut. Oh, Roxy why did you have to leave? I mentally pleaded. Dad, you need to help me out here. I can't do this alone. Please. I prayed. With all of my supplies in hand, and the hope my father would guide me, I made my way quickly back to the boy.
"Lead the way," I said. I followed the younger kid as he led me to the injured satyr. I had a lot of thoughts running through my mind at the time. I tried to stop myself from panicking. Maybe sewing lessons from my grandmother would pay off today. I never thought they would. It might make her happy to know that she was right. As we got closer, I realized the camper the boy had been talking about was Luke. He stood next to the satyr, attached to a tree by a long sword embedded in his arm. I bit back a choked sound. I knew that satyr. I had watched him chase Nymphs around in the forest. Patrick was a usually fun loving guy. To think that he had been taken over by Charlie made me bubble with mixed emotions, like anger and sadness. I tried to shake them. I needed to focus on saving his life.
"Luke!" I called out, the boy and I slowing our pace to a jog as we got closer. "What happened?" I asked.

I had my arms around Patrick, slightly lifting his body. He kept on drifting in and out of consciousness and I had to keep him steady so their wouldn't be any added pressure on his arm. I heard my name being yelled out and I whipped my head around, hoping it wasn't any more trouble. I breathed out a sigh of relief when I realized it was just my friend, Fletch.
"Well the Olympic Athlete standing next to you managed to impale Patrick's arm." I responded to his question. "He's a brainwashed satyr and we were trying not to kill him. He had other ideas in mind, so this is a good medium. That is if we keep him alive." I explained further.
Fletch looked nervous, a first aid kit in his hand. I trusted the guy with my life, but I had half hoped a more qualified camper would show up. I knew without Roxy, the infirmary's been chaotic lately, so he was probably the best thing I could get anyways. I appreciated his help anyways.
"Alright, Can someone pull this sword out for me? I'm a little busy." I began. "You might need to patch of the gushing blood flow that might come out after though."
That's all I could really say, I was no expert and the rest was in Fletch's hands.
I turned to see Nick running out of the forest, a pile of large, broad leaves in his arms.
"And we've got reinforcements just in case." I noted.

"I'll, I'll Take it out." I stuttered. "I mean I was the one who caused this. I want to be the one to help. I don't know much about stopping the blood flow, but I know how to take a sword out."

Just then Nick stepped forward

"I know how to stop blood flow. So on the count of three I want you to pull the sword out and I'll quickly apply pressure to slow down the blood flow." he said.

I firmly nodded my head as I walked over to Patrick. I got a firm grip on the hilt of my sword. I looked backwards at Nick and nodded my head once more as I tightened my grip even more. At that moment many memories of the times I've spent hanging out with Nick and Patrick and suddenly a wave of guilt spread throughout my body. I then bit my bottom lip, something I often did when I was nervous, scared, or concentrating) and waited for Nick's count.

"One." I breathed deeply. "Two." I blinked rapidly. "Three." I pulled quickly but delicately. When I did so the sword came out with ease. With the sword still in my hand I stumbled backwards and regained my balance quickly.

The sword still had the black clip on the side of the hilt. I slid it down and it shrank back down to the box cutter. On the side of the box cutter words were printed. 'Adamantine.' 'Unbreakable.' Much like the sword Hermes gave to Perseus. Nick rushed forward with the leaves and started applying pressure to the wound. I looked at Fletch and Luke questioned them almost immediately. "What do we do now?"

"I'll take it from here," I said as confidently as I could. "Keep applying pressure to it." It felt really weird being the one giving orders now. I really wasn't used to it. I opened the box and kept my hands as steady as possible, breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. I picked up some alcohol, and wet a cloth with it. I turned to the injured Satyr and dabbed the alcohol on the wound to clean in quickly, like I had seen Roxy do for bad gashes on demigods. I then grabbed the needle, after a couple hurried attempts to get the thread into the small hole I finally managed. I tied a large knot on the end, and looked at the satyr, Nick still applying pressure. Alright, Dad, now would be the time to help if you're gonna' I thought again. With one last exhale, I dove in, pushing the sharp tipped needle into the red skin, and pulling the thread to the other side. It was just like sewing blankets and clothes like my grandmother had taught me, only flesh was a bit harder to get through. My nerves were subsiding, and I was growing more confident. It was just a repeated motion, like playing the violin or pulling the string on my bow. Nick moved his hands out of the way gradually as I moved on with the sewing, but I barely noticed anybody was around me anymore. It was just me and my focus. Once I had closed the wound on one side of the arm, I snapped the thread and cleaned the needle, ready for round two. Sending another thin thread through the hole I did the same thing I had done previously. This time, it was easier. I'd like to think it was my dad answering my prayers who was giving me such confidence, helping me link the healing to things I was actually good at, but I wasn't sure. I decided to say a silent thank you anyway. Once I was finished with the second gauge on the other side of the arm, I broke the thread and tied it to the skin once more. I then brought out bandages. This was the easy part. Since the blood had stopped flowing out of his body, the bandages would help them stay put. I wrapped the white linen around the Satyrs arm, chewing my bottom lip in concentration. It tasted like blood. I guess I had been biting down on it the whole time. I tied a knot to keep the bandages together and sighed heavily in relief. The satyr was going to live.
"He'll be okay," I said finally, looking up at Luke, Nick and the younger boy. My mouth curled up in a satisfied smile. I was proud of myself, and only wished Roxy could have seen it.
