Percy meets an Apollo kid called Fletch

I had walked out of the Apollo cabin for breakfast. A crowd of my siblings passed me as I stopped to yawn and stretch my back. I hadn't had the best sleep of my life the night before, but then, these past weeks hadn't been my best track record for sleeping patterns. I continued having dreams about Charlie draining the sanity from mentally disabled teenagers in a psych ward. Each dream seemed more and more urgent, like my subconscious didn't understand that it was impossible for me to leave camp at this time. As I stretched, I heard someone beside me. He had introduced his lengthy name. I opened my eyes instantly to look at him. He was a boy around my age, with dirty blonde hair and sea blue eyes. He sported a casual look, wearing an orange Camp Half-Blood shirt with blue jeans. He stood with his hand outstretched. Instead of standing there staring at him like an idiot, I decided to do the polite thing and shake his hand.
"Hey, Percy," I said with a friendly smile. "I'm Fletch Kealoha." Part of me wondered why he wanted to talk to me, but the other part of me wasn't complaining at all. I didn't mind random strangers striking up a conversation with me from time to time.
"What brings you to the Apollo cabin?" I asked.

His question brought on a feelings of guilt that churned my stomach. I wished I wasn't a year rounder so that I could take care of my grandmother while she grieved the recent death of her husband and my grandfather. I was stuck here in camp, unable to leave unless I was on a quest, and even if I was on a quest, I couldn't waste time to have tea and catch up with her. Normally I wouldn't mind having Camp Half-Blood as my forever home, but in my current situation, part of me longed for the apartment on the 20th floor in New York City, where I had grown up used to the smell of my grandmothers tropical plant collection, and the sound of instruments being strummed nearly every hour.
"I'm here year-round," I said, with a forced smile I tried to play off as genuine. I didn't want him to notice I was feeling guilty. I didn't want to have to poor my life story on the poor guy who had only come for a small chat. "I used to live with my grandmother and grandfather, but I decided to protect them I should stay here." I concluded. I watched as the last of the sea of campers headed to the dining hall. Hoping to change the subject I looked at the boy and held out a hand in the direction of the dining hall.
"Wanna walk to breakfast with me?" I asked, giving a happier tone to my voice.

I thought about that for a minute. Apollo being the god of... Well, many things, there were a lot of potential 'powers' his children held.
"For one most of us have pretty good aim and archery skills," I said. It was definitely something I had. When I shot an arrow I could feel how much power was required to make the shot, and how much of an angle to put on it. "We're also very musically inclined. Ask any Apollo kid, they'll be able to play at least one instrument or sing, or both," I said. I didn't like to sing, especially in front of other people, but I knew I could. Playing the violin was definitely something I was more comfortable with. I was able to play most string instruments to some degree. I knew how to play the Ukulele, and some guitar. I could also navigate myself around a banjo if you gave me enough time.
"Some of us are really skilled with medicine, like my sister Roxy. She's better than some doctors I've been to," I said. Again, most Apollo kids had, to some degree, a knack for medicine. None of my siblings were as amazing as Roxy was at it though. "We can sing to our father to heal campers if the sickness is really bad, and it heals them," I explained. I racked my brain for any more 'powers' I thought we had.
"Some really rare cases say that some Apollo kids have Photokinesises, you know,bending light to make figures? I'm... Actually not positive whether or not any of my siblings have that," I said. I thought for a moment more before deciding that that was basically all of the well known Apollo child abilities.
"That's it," I concluded. "So, water, huh? Have you ever tried to control it?" I asked curiously as we got closer to the mess hall.

A smile spread across my lips as a glimmer of excitement rose in my chest.
"Sounds awesome!" I replied enthusiastically. The lake was always one of my favourite places to go. I liked the variety of activities it had. You could swim, or go boating, canoeing, do some awesome water sports with water skiing and wake boards, or you could just chill out with friends on the beach. I often saw children of Aphrodite hanging out on the beach like that. They liked to get dressed up in their bathing suites and work on their tans while gossiping with each other. I had witnessed Hermes children playing their pranks on them numerous times. A thought ran through my mind like a cheetah chasing after it's prey. What if, when Percy had gotten a bit more practice controlling the water, he could make waves big enough for me to surf? The image of my lonely surf board hanging up on the golden wall beside my bed of the Apollo cabin pranced around my brain. I hadn't thought about it, but the sudden possibility had me itching for a good surf. I figured it would be good practice for Percy to make waves in the water of Long Island Sound.

We made it to the dining pavilion, where most campers were already seated ordering their food. I scanned the hall, my eyes instinctively resting on the Apollo cabin table, where my siblings gathered to eat with each other. I turned to Percy, flashing him another friendly smile.
"Alright, come find me after lunch and we'll go to the lake," I said. We parted ways, he walking towards a table where two of his siblings, Atalantis and James sat chatting with each other. I walked into the direction of my siblings. Upon arriving at the table, I took a seat in between my younger siblings Bodine and J.J. Two of my other siblings fought over a chicken wing one of them had tried to steal from the others plate. They both knew that the guy could easily wish chicken wings upon his plate, but they didn't seem to care. The Apollo table was as rambunctious and loud as always. I chuckled and sighed, listening to arguments about who was a better shot with a bow, and which song was better than which. I wished for a grilled cheese on my plate, it appeared with melted cheddar oozing from the sides invitingly. In my cup I wished for my usual Fruit Punch Arizona. Licking my lips eagerly, I dug into my lunch.

(yeah, of course.)

I thought for a moment.
"Okay sounds good when are we leaving?"
It actually sounded pretty fun and I was actually excited to go.
"Sounds fun!"

After breakfast, I made my donation to the Daddy-likes-to-smell-my-food fund, by dropping in half of my cheesy grilled cheese sandwich. I liked to keep my Arizona to myself. I then made my way out of the Dining hall, stopping to say hi to a few people like Luke, Casper and Dean.
I made my way to my cabin, heading to put on my swimsuit and get my surfboard. I was filled with excitement as I jogged to the golden building. I hadn't surfed in forever, but it was essentially like riding a bike... At least I hoped it was.
I entered to find a couple of my siblings collecting their bows and quivers to start their morning activities, which I would be apparently skipping. Once they had left I threw off my shirt and pants to put on my blue swimsuit decorated with white Hibiscus flowers, and my white wife-beater shirt. I took my surfboard from the hooks it rested on and tucked it under my arm.
Needless to say, I nearly destroyed my cabin trying to maneuver my way out with a large surfboard, but once I got the heavy door open, I ran in my sandals excitedly towards the beach.

I spotted Percy once I got there, he was standing with another guy who I was excited to realize was James, a boy I had met a while ago when he had fallen at my feet in excitement to say hello. I was glad to be talking to him again, I knew the two of us would be getting along great from the moment he tripped instead of me.
"Hey! Guys!" I said, rushing over to them as they turned to acknowledge me. I stood my surfboard up in the sand as I stopped, my chest rising and falling as my shortness of breath fought to catch up with the words I wanted to say.
"I brought my surfboard because I thought that it would be good practice for you guys to try and make big waves," I said with a smile.
"I figured I could get some surfing in while helping you out with your powers." I wasn't sure how practiced James was with his demigod abilities, but now that there were two children of Poseidon working at controlling the water, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't take them long to get a surfable wave going.
I looked at them to see if they thought my idea was good, hoping they would. To be completely honest, I wasn't sure how Poseidon abilities worked. I wasn't really sure how any abilities other than Apollo worked, but I hoped I didn't sound like a complete idiot.
