A 'Chaotic' Welcome

Well, now that I was pretty much integrated into camp, I was expected to pull my weight around here. This morning I had been told by my friend Quintyn that I was on border patrol, much to my dismay. I tried to argue my way out of it, but there really was no arguing with Quintyn. Man, I thought I was good with my words until I had met her.
So, now I was stuck walking up and down the border, keeping an eye out for any disturbances in the force. Which, for the record, was completely boring. There was nothing to look at but trees and dirt. Or the sky, but I had looked at it for so long my neck had started to hurt after trying to figure out what shapes the clouds looked like.
I swung my arms in boredom as I walked, taking gigantic strides to see if I could get around any faster. Not that it mattered, I was stationed here until a certain time. I didn't know what they expected me to do if anything went wrong. I didn't even have a weapon on me. I hadn't gotten the chance to visit the armory, and avoided it because I had no idea where to begin.

My luck seemed to change as I looked out over Half Blood Hill and spotted a figure climbing up it. I excitedly stopped right in my tracks and turned to watch them. I placed a hand over my eyebrows to shield my eyes from the sun in attempt to get a better look at the figure as they climbed. A quick moment of motivation to help the new-comer out passed through my mind, but instead I stayed where I was and tried to make out their appearance. It was good they were getting closer, I could now confidently assume that they were a girl. Score. A red headed girl at that. Double score. A sly grin tugged at the corners of my lips. I stood up straighter and cupped my hands around my mouth to yell in the direction of the new girl.
"You've got it! Almost there! Keep going! You can do it!" I dropped my hands to place one on my hip, and raise the other over my eyebrows again, a wide grin now playing on my face as I waited in anticipation to meet someone new.

The girl looked up at me when she heard my voice, raising her hand to wave. I waved back at her as she continued to walk. It didn't take her long before she was up the hill and close enough for us to talk to each other without yelling.
The girl commented on how large the hill was, her voice carrying a thick Irish accent that made my heart skip a couple beats. Oh boy, how I loved accents. I watched as she flipped her wavy copper hair over her shoulder before turning to look at me with deep brown eyes. My grin couldn't help but grow wider as I looked her up and down, biting the corner of my lip slightly. She looked at least a couple years younger than me. She was definitely shorter, but then, most people were. She seemed older than 12, so that was a good sign.
I was brought back to reality by her voice again, asking me if I had ever heard of Camp Half Blood.
"Well, your search is over, my dear." I casually draped an arm over her shoulder and turned her slightly so she could see the overview of Camp you got when you looked down on it from Half Blood Hill. You could see the Big House from here, and just about everything else, which really did look quite amazing from this angle.
"Behold, Camp Half Blood, home of the Demigod... And aren't you lucky you've got me for a guide." A cheeky grin slipped across my mouth as I glanced to the side to look at her. "The name's Shiloh, by the way. Shiloh Kaiser. What's yours?"

Cadi Ivers introduced herself with a grin, which I returned with a lopsided smirk of my own. She then asked what they should do now that she was here. To be honest, I didn't really know. When I had first come to camp, Quintyn had dragged my twin brother and I to the blue building known as The Big House, where I met a guy with horses ass, literally, and a guy who kept calling me Sharon and Shannon. I was really not down to go pay him another visit so I decided I'd skip that part and let the Centaur named Chiron know Cadi was here later.
While chewing on my bottom lip, I decided that it would make sense to take Cadi to the cabin she would be staying in while she waited for her parent to claim her. Luckily, I was staying there too. A sly smile crossed my expression for a moment.
"Cadi. A pretty name to match a pretty girl. Grab your things, Sweetcheeks. You're rooming with me." I brought my gaze back up to Cadi's brown eyed one and gave a playful wink.

After Cadi had grabbed her suitcase, I led her down Half Blood Hill, and made my way passed The Big House, and over to the square formations of cabins.
As we walked by other buildings I introduced them to her. I felt kind of like an actual tour guide. All I needed now was a sexy tour guide outfit. Did those even exist? If they didn't I was totally going to make one for future reference.
"There's the stables, and the armory, and the arena," I pointed out. Pegasi flew overhead of us as we walked past the stables. Obviously there was a class going on and a cabin had taken them out for a little flying practice.
When we walked past the armory I made a mental note to go in there and get a weapon some time soon. No use putting it off, I was going to need one.
Very soon the clanks of metal on metal, and the grunts and thumps of sparring demigods sounded to the left of us where the Arena stood. I couldn't help but look in the direction to see if I could get a good look at any sweaty bodies practicing, but they were too far away. My bottom lip protruded in a pout momentarily. Maybe I'd visit the Arena sometime soon too.
Soon enough we had made it to the ring of cabins. Well, it was more like a square. I familiarly made my way to the crappiest looking cabin there was. At least compared to the golden Apollo cabin, and the thunderous and mighty Zeus cabin it was. stepped up the stairs quickly and wrapped my hand around the old doorknob. I swung open the door and held it so Cadi could go in first.
"This is the Hermes cabin, and as long as you're 'unclaimed' you'll be staying here. My mom hasn't claimed my brother and I yet, so I'm staying here too. Anyway, Hermes is the patron God for travelers or whatever so he takes in all the demigods who don't have a cabin of their own. Pretty cool of him, isn't it?" The cabin was empty, as the Hermes cabin was out doing their afternoon activities. There were a lot of beds already taken, but surprisingly enough there were still some vacant cots. I had to hand it to it. This cabin didn't look like much, but it was definitely big and spacious.

When we made our way into the cabin, I had immediately gone towards my bed and plopped down on the bottom bunk. I was super happy to have an excuse to be off of border patrol, especially a cute excuse like this one, who was flirting back with her.
A content smile spread across my lips before Cadi started to speak.
"Yeah, I never thought the Gods were real either, but I guess that explains why everyone was always out to get me. Just throw your luggage on an empty bed of your choice and we can get this party started." I raised my eyebrows under my black bangs with a sly smirk. "Or, if you'd prefer I'd be willing to share mine." I leaned back against the wall of the cabin with as I kept my gaze on Cadi, trying to guess her parentage.
There were a lot of stereotypes I noticed the kids here had in common with their siblings. Hermes' children were all sticky fingered little pranksters who liked to steal from others. Apollo kids were good with archery and medicine. Athena's children were really smart... And blonde. Knowing all of this about the Gods' children made me a little frustrated that I couldn't place myself and my brother in a cabin. The problem was that the two of us were so completely opposite from each other we didn't fit with the campers stereotypes. I pursed my lips in thought, trying to focus on placing Cadi, but nothing came to mind. I didn't know her well enough. I brought my knees up to my chest and rested my elbow on them so I could support my cheek in my hands.
"So what's your story?" I asked, keeping my eyes fixed on her. Maybe if she told me about her life before her journey to camp it would give me some clues as to who her parent was. I patted the empty space beside me invitingly, hoping she would sit down beside me.

I kept my eyes keenly placed on Cadi as she told me about her life before coming to Camp Half Blood. She told me about how her parents met, and about her childhood of causing trouble. It didn't surprise me that she was the trouble making type. She had a mischievous and intriguing glint in her deep brown eyes I had noticed earlier. I listened to her tell me about her sexuality, just as I had suspected, she was into chicks. Total bonus. I had kind of guessed she was. She had that same aura around her I often sensed when others were gay. Yeah, you could say I had a pretty great gay-dar. I was hardly ever wrong. Also, it wasn't that hard to figure out once she had started returning my advances with her own flirtatious remarks, which I loved, and couldn't get enough of.
The smile that had tugged at the corner of my mouth slowly fell as she went on to tell me about how her dad had flown her out from Ireland to Camp Half Blood just yesterday. It seemed kind of heavy of him to just throw her on a plane and leave her to her own devices. I mean, Cadi was definitely a smart girl, and I had no doubts she could handle herself on the streets, but still, it wasn't the most comforting thing, especially because he told her she wouldn't be seeing him again.
I watched with a saddened expression as a tear fell from the beautiful eyes of the pretty girl. She turned away from me to wipe them and get a hold of herself. I slipped my arm around her shoulders comfortingly, more intent to make her feel better than flirt with her.
"I never really knew my dad," I said as I started beginning to share my own story with her. "He was this big important CEO who had no time for my twin brother and I. He'd come around sometimes, but he never really looked in our direction, or seemed to care at all. He didn't say much about my mom either... Only that he resented her for breaking his heart. He was a total hypocrite. I watched him break tons of women's hearts growing up. He'd send hot nannies over for my brother and I, but they never lasted. We'd always drive them out somehow. Kaiser and I pretty much took care of ourselves living in this huge house alone. We got into a lot of trouble too... Especially Kaiser, he got into fights a lot. Me? Well I uh... Got around. Got into a lot of trouble with people's significant others." I paused for a minute, thinking about all the people I had convinced into being unfaithful. Most of them I didn't even realize were in a relationship until the girlfriend or boyfriend came for me. Others, well, they were surprisingly easy to convince into cheating. I decided to make this conversation turn more positive, so I quickly changed the subject.
"Anyway, enough about my stupid past... You know, there are ways you can see your dad if you're missing him or want to talk to him. I've heard of this thing called Iris Messaging. I've never tried it, but I know you can talk to anyone you want to through it. We could go find someone to help us if you wanted?" I suggested, putting a smile on my face to swallow the tingling feeling of guilt that had formed in my gut from remembering my past. I had made a vow not to be that girl while at this camp... I wanted to be a better person, plus, it would be totally not safe to have some angry couples coming at me with sharp weapons and superhuman abilities. I couldn't help but shudder at the thought. I focused once more on Cadi with a care free smile on my face.
