I couldn't believe that Leslie had just left Zack, Shiloh. Kasier and I down with a Basilisk while she ran with Roxy. A burning sensation of anger bubbled up inside me at the fact that the daughter of Hades had the audacity to leave the rest of us.
For now, despite my intensifying anger, I had to focus on keeping the others safe. Kasier and Shiloh had pulled their own weapons. Shiloh, a pair of twin swords, and Kaiser a Scimitar. We made another circle around the snake, each taking swings at it's face as it lunged to bit us. It aimed for me, and I ducked out of the way. Kaiser took advantage and stepped on it's tail. Before it could turn, Shiloh trapped it with her swords, sticking the two in it's legs and attaching it to the ground, then jumping back. Kaiser stripped his boot off as the acidic scales of the monster burned through the soles. He threw the boot at the Basilisks head. I took advantage of it's sudden confusion and sent my sword straight through it's neck, which much to my surprise didn't kill it. As it stayed pinned to the ground, blades holding it to the floor through it's legs and neck, it hissed angrily at us.
I took the barrel Roxy had tried to trap it in, and held it close to the monster.
"Okay, on three, you have to take your weapons," I said. I didn't know if we would be coming back for the monster. Shiloh nodded, and Kasier moved so that he would be able to take mine. We all avoided the deadly stare of the Basilisk as I counted.
"1... 2... 3!" Shiloh ripped her weapons from the legs, and Kasier ripped my sword from it's neck. The monster wailed in pain, and right as it tried to jump , I caught it in the barrel and slammed it on the ground, trapping the lizard underneath. It tried to fight, but I sat on top of it to keep weight on it.
"How do we weigh it down?" Shiloh asked. I tried to think fast, looking around at the cells for any heavy object.
Kaiser let out a long, deep sigh before coming up to me and handing me my sword.
"Hell," he muttered, "I'll sit on it. But you dumbasses better come back for me." I looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"Are you sure?" I questioned.
"I'm already losing a fucking shoe," he pointed out harshly. "Where the hell am I supposed to go with one shoe?" I nodded shortly.
"Point taken." I turned to his sister, who looked at me expectantly, as if waiting to be given an order.
"Shiloh, do you know how to get out of here?" I asked.
"Sure do," she answered.
"Great. Get me the hell out of here, I have to go find Roxy," I said desperately, worry washing over my like a tidal wave. I spotted the vial of Basilisk blood Roxy had extracted from the reptile that lay on the floor. I jumped off the barrel, leaving Kaiser to take my place as I swept it from the ground in one swift motion and put it in my back pocket.
Shiloh led Zack and I up the stairs, making sure we didn't run into any unwelcome visitors like Nymphs and Satyrs who were looking for some runaway demigod prisoners. Shiloh led us carefully out of the basement, and up to the main floor. Now the problem I had to face was where Leslie had run off with Roxy. I tried to use simple common sense, assuming Leslie had any, which I wasn't very confident of currently. If you were to get someone somewhere safe, where would you take them? Leslie couldn't shadow travel anywhere she hadn't been, andin the motel she had only beein in the basement. She could be back at the Impala, or in the forest. Either way, they were outside. I needed to get outside.
Shiloh got us outside using the back door, and going first to check for any other of Charlies forces. When she deemed the area clear, I let my panic run free.
I ran full speed into the bushes, calling Roxy's name, despite hisses of protest coming from Zack and Shiloh in attempt to keep my quiet as they ran after me. I heard nothing in response for a while, which worried me. Had Leslie taken her somewhere farther? Like the starbucks? Was she that strong? I didn't know. I tore through the bushes in desperate attempt to reach Roxy. I called her name again, this time, I was answered by a voice I knew wasn't hers, but was just as good.
I ran in the direction and spotted Leslie sitting over Roxy, who was on the ground, curled into a ball of pain. Her skin was pale, like Finns had been, her eyes bleeding just the same as poison coursed through her veins. She coughed and sputtered violently. Whatever had been infecting Finn was a much more controlled dose than what Roxy had just taken in. I rushed to her side, basically knocking Leslie out of the way so I could get a better look at the daughter of Apollo I swore to protect.
"Roxy, ROXY," I shouted, worry shaking my voice. I cupped her face in my hands in attempt to make her look at me. Her hazel eyes rolled around in her skull as she fought to stay conscious.
"Roxy you brave idiot," I choked. I couldn't afford to let her die. Not with what I promised Finn. This was already something I promised Finn wouldn't happen.
I had to think fast, trying to keep my head level so I could focus. The antidote for Finn would most likely be the same for Roxy, seeing as this poison is what Charlie had infected Finn with on a much softer scale.
I pulled the syringe from my back pocket and held it with my fingers, ready to inject it. I prayed to Apollo he would help me heal his daughter. I gripped Roxy's cold hands in mine as I stretched her arm out to try and find a place to put the Basilisk blood. I figured the veins in her wrist would lead straight to her blood, which would travel everywhere quickly. I let the metal slid under her skin, she whimpered in response weakly. I pushed the pump down in a steady motion and took the needle out from her arm, replacing my thumb where the injection was so that none would escape. I wanted every single last drop to enter her body.
Almost immediately Roxy became still. Her eyes closed, her body stopped shaking and her coughing was silenced. My heart dropped to my stomach, in fear I had just killed her.
I didn't look at anybody, I didn't want to see their faces. I didn't want them to see my face. How could I have been so impulsive? How could I have used that on Roxy without knowing if there were any side-effects.
Suddenly Roxy took a large breath in, and her eyes opened wide. I let out a whimper sound of my own I had never heard escape my mouth as I jumped forward to wrap my arms around the Apollo medic in desperate joy. She was okay. She was alive. Roxy fell back in surprise.
"Q-Quin?" She stammered weakly, hesitantly hugging me back.
"I thought you were dead," I gasped, stuffing my head into her shoulder. Roxy let out a shaky chuckle, her breath brushing past my ear.
"Not getting rid of me that easy," she said. I pulled away from the hug and helped her sit up. She looked around, a confused expression lay on her face.
"Wh- Why are we in the woods?" She asked. She looked at Shiloh, obviously wondering why she was here with us, and her brother wasn't. Her question reminded me of another emotion I had repressed during my panic of nearly losing Roxy. I turned to Leslie, my grey eyes reflecting as much anger as I felt. I grabbed the demigods shirt in my fists and forced her back, straddling her on the ground and striking her with a vicious right hook to the face, again. I ignored the pain that shot through my fist and grabbed her collar again, bringing her face close to mine.
"You left us," I spat, the Russian accent I always developed when angry beginning to roll off my tongue like a wave does rocks in a thunder storm. "You ran away and left us all. You didn't even grab the syringe. Shiloh is the only reason I was able to get to Roxy. What? Was there too much pressure for you? Had to go hide in the shadows in attempt to be the hero?" I threw her back down, bringing my face close to hers.
"You're lucky I don't slit your throat right here, trus" The last word I spat in Russian. Suddenly a pair of hands on both my arms pulled me off the daughter of Hades. Shiloh and Zack dragged me through the ground, I twisted and fought in anger until they let me go. Shiloh grabbed me by my shoudlers.
"Hey, hey, calm down," she said forcibly, but also managed to have a calm edge to her voice. She stared into my eyes with her oddly coloured ones, and weirdly enough, I felt calmer, my head felt fuzzy for a moment, and then I was back to reality. I was still angry, just less violent. Zack helped Leslie on the ground. I kicked the ground with my foot, letting a dust cloud fly. I went over to Roxy, softening my expression as I knelt down in front of her to offer my hand for her to take.
"Sorry," I whispered to her. I was sorry I let it happen to her, I was sorry for blowing up in front of her, I was sorry for everything in that moment as I stared at the face of the girl who I felt I had become way closer with on this quest.
"I... I worried. A lot. You scared the shit out of me, Rox," I explained. I looked at her, waiting for her reaction. I knew she had witnessed emotional outbusts like this from me before, but never like this. I hoped she'd see my reasoning.
(i'd just like to let it be known, that Quintyn is an asshole and in no way reflects my views on the people she is an asshole to ok yes bye)
