History: Jackson Faye was a police officer in San Francisco. He was an interesting case when it came to soling crimes for he used historical cases to help solve them. When out late one night on patrol he got a call for a break in, in which the burglar was still in the house. When he arrived he broke down the door and he saw the burglar slip out the back door. He then began chasing him down the street on foot and when turned into the dead end alley he saw the burglar go in, he was gone. Confused, he went back to the house and asked the owner what he looked like, and the owner said he didn't what he was talking about. Even more confused he walked back to his squad car. When he arrived at the car, a woman was leaning against his car. She said, "I've kept an eye on you and I've deemed you worthy." This woman, after he recognized her, was his girlfriend. He replied, "Of what?" Replying, she said, "You'll see." Needless to say nine months later, Derin was born and showed up on Jackson's doorstep with a note that said "I am a Greek goddess, send East to Camp Half-Blood, Long Island, New York when monsters get bad. And with the note was a sword with Greek lettering on the hilt.
As Derin grew up he had a more then average monster filled childhood due to location, San Francisco. He saw glimpses of a cyclops, a moving statue, snakes, metal birds, and many others, but all of which were at a distance. His father, who could see through the Mist, was able to get him to safety before the monsters noticed Derin. His father was able to protect him, to an extent. Then one day when he was 15, almost 16, when he was walking home from school a hellhound chased him to his house were it proceeded to bite and claw at him. With some undiscovered reflexes he evaded most of the strikes except the last one, which gave him his scars across his left eye. His father then rushed out with a sword in hand and stabbed the hell hound in the chest, making disappear in a shower of golden dust. After the attack, Jackson then decided to send Derin to Camp Half-Blood, like his mother had said to when this would happen. So Jackson sent Derin on a train East towards Camp Half-Blood with some basic provisions for travel in a backpack. Before sending him off, Jackson told him, "I'm sorry that I can't come with you, but you have to undertake this by yourself. The hellhound attack proved that I just can't protect you anymore. You have the strength within you, that will get you to Camp that I don't have." With that he handed him the sword, and for the first time it glowed a deathly grey. So Derin was on his way to Camp Half-Blood,taking several trains he ended up in West Virginia on his 16th birthday. While sleeping at the train station, he woke suddenly from a huge boom and breaking of concrete. He turned to see a terrifying dragon. Wide eyed, he grabbed his sword and got to his feet. The dragon the proceeded to charge and rake his claws at Derin, who narrowly avoided them. Then the dragon spun and swiped him with its tail, flinging him 20 feet. Landing with a gasp, the dragon was now standing over him. The dragon then opened its huge maw of a mouth, and Derin could see a light inside it. He knew what was about to happen. Then suddenly he heard a clang on the floor to his left and a slight pressure like straps on his arm. Looking, he saw a shield strapped to his arm that hadn't been there before. He quickly put it between him and the dragon, just as it shot a fiery inferno at him. Although he felt the heat, Derin was left unharmed. He quickly slashed at its head, dazing the dragon, as he heard the train pull up. He then sprinted towards the train and got on, thankfully the dragon did not follow. While on the train he noticed on the back of the shield a note. It read: "Defence is the best offense." -A.Those words rang in his head for the entire ride to New York.
That train took him then to New York City, New York. He get off here, thinking Camp would be easy to find. But come to find out, he ended up walking through the streets wondering aimlessly for hours trying to find where to go. Then suddenly a woman with a hood concealing her face in shadow, walked up to him and told him, "Hello, I am a messenger from your mother, I know what you seek and I will guide you there." Suspicious at first, but thankful for any help he went with her. As they started walking, he asked her, "My mother? Do you know who she is and where she lives? And why did she never come to visit?" He had so many questions to ask, but he was cut off short when she said, "No questions, we have a long walk ahead of us." He then followed her for hours upon hours and eventually ended up in the country side. As they arrived at a hill with a pine tree on the top, Derin looked down into the valley and saw a big house and various other structures that looked like a camp. The lady said, "We are here." then gave him a small package. He opened it and inside was a foot long dagger. He grabbed the hilt, and it started giving the same deathly gray glow as his sword. When Derin looked up to say thanks for all she had done, she was gone. Confused, he began making his way down the hill to the big house, hoping this was the right place, and knocked on the door. He was then greeted by a man who was in a wheelchair with a blanket on his legs, who said, "Ahh, it looks like a new camper."
After a long process of having everything explained to him, Derin was dumbfounded of the news that his mother was a Goddess. Then all of a sudden the man in wheelchair, Chiron, smiled and looked above Derin's head. Above it was floating grey symbol of an owl. Chiron then said, "Welcome, Son of Athena, to Camp Half-blood."
