Quintyn, Dean and I had started walking toward the Infirmary when we had heard the shell blow for the next activity before lunch to start. I stood in the middle of the two as we walked, feeling like the biggest wall on earth for Dean, though he was taller than me by about a foot and a half. As we walked I noticed Morgan walking towards her next activity.
"Morgan!" I called to her, cupping my hands around my mouth. She stopped in her tracks and looked around to see me waving her over. She jogged up to us and stopped in front of me.
"Fletch, long time no see," she said with a smirk.
"Back at you," I replied. Morgan scanned Quintyn and Dean with her brown eyes.
"Who're these two?" She asked.
"Newbies," I replied. "Quintyn, Dean, this is Morgan. Morgan, this is Quintyn and Dean."
"Sup'?" greeted Morgan. Dean nodded his hello.
"Just stole a Pegasus from the stable," Quintyn explained with a shrug as if it was no big deal and she did it every day.
"That was you?" Morgan asked. "I saw that from where I was riding."
"Yours truly," Quintyn confirmed.
"So hey," I said, pulling Morgans focus back to me. "You still meeting us for that meeting about the Nymphs and Satyrs?"
"Yeah, at the dining pavilion at lunch," she said. I thought for a minute.
"We should probably have it in the ping pong room," I said.
"Why's that?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
"There was a little accident when we stole the Pegasus," I said.
"Oh gods, what happened this time?" Morgan said in an unimpressed tone. Her raised eyebrow didn't drop.
"Luke fell off one," I said.
"Of course he did," she said with a sigh. "Fly Boy didn't think to take off into the sky?" She asked.
"Guess not," I said with a shrug. "Anyway, Luke is keeping Roxy company in the infirmary, so we'll just gather everyone at the big house. Mr D will be in the dining hall anyway so we won't have to worry about him."
"Sounds good," Morgan said with a shrug.
"If you see Finn, tell her where we'll be," I said.
"'Course," Morgan replied. "Anyway, I should get going. See you guys later." She turned and waved before jogging over to her next activity. We stood there a bit, Quintyn was watching Morgan as she left, looking deep in thought.
"What?" I asked.
"I like her hair," Quintyn answered, nodding in an approving way. I grinned, so did Dean. The four of us continued to walk to the Infirmary, getting closer to the Strawberry Fields. The closer we got, the more sure I was that I could hear music. The sound of reed pipes being played softly, and horrible beat boxing along with them. I shouldered my violin case, which I had gone to get before we had made our way to the infirmary. I hated not having it. I felt naked without it, unsafe and vulnerable. As we reached the strawberry fields I saw Roxy, Luke and Casper. They were laughing and playing, Casper on his reed pipes and Luke doing the beat boxing. Roxy was dancing. It was nice to see them happy, despite the horrible things that were happening around the camp, it made me happy to see that not all hope was lost.
"Hey slackers," Quintyn greeted. The three of them looked up.
"hey guys," Luke greeted from the ground.
"Why wasn't I invited to this musical jam?" I asked, faking a hurt sound in my voice.
"I think my beat boxing has shown up your violin playing, Haiku Face," Luke said looking up at me with a cheeky grin. I raised my eyebrows in one of those Oh, really? ways.
"Whatever stops the tears, Morning Wood," I said. Quintyn looked either confused or disturbed by our nicknames for each other. Maybe both. Dean leaned over to her.
"Don't ask," he advised. She nodded reluctantly, as if wresting with whether or not she wanted to know.
"I thought you two were going to the infirmary," I said, sitting beside Casper and Luke in the strawberries.
"your boyfriend used his cute powers on us and we ended up staying," Luke said. "Resistance was futile." I grinned looking at Casper, who's face was slightly red. I caught Roxy looking at the two of us with a smile on her face, as if she thought it was the cutest thing ever, which only made me blush. I figured the both of us blushing was way too Risky with Quintyn here to make it awkward, so I tried to change the subject.
"We ran into Morgan," I said.
"Oh yeah? She's still coming, right?" Asked Roxy.
"Yeah, I told her to meet us at the Ping Pong table, figured it would be better if Luke was near the infirmary, also, Mr D is going to be in the Dining Hall, so we'll be able to talk without worrying about his stuck up ass," I answered. Luke and Roxy nodded.
"Does everyone else know?" Asked Luke.
"I told Morgan to tell Finn, I figured if no one comes I'd just go look for them at the dining pavilion and bring them back," I said with a shrug.
"Alright, sounds good," Roxy said.
"Why are we having this huge meeting?" Quintyn asked after a while. I realized she was in the dark about the whole situation. I explained everything from the begining, for what felt to be the 100th time. I explained the attack on the Nymphs tree's, and how one of them had tried to kill Luke and I during Capture the Flag. I explained the quest, and what we had found out about Charlie. I explained the missing campers, even Justin, which set a dark tone to everyone's expressions. When I finished, Quintyn was silent.
"Wow," she said in a sympathetic tone. "I'm sorry."
"Being a demigod isn't easy, that's for sure," I said.
"There's a lot of death..." Luke said.
"A lot of loss, and fucked up feelings," I continued. We sat there in silence for a good long time, not really thinking about anything at all, which is pretty hard for a kid with ADHD to do. I played with my violin case strap, it was starting to fray from being picked at by a nervous Fletch. I needed to make a new one, a new case that made the violin easy to access.
"We should get going if we're going to meet everyone at the Ping Pong room," Roxy advised, bringing us all out of our minds.
"Yeah, I gotta get the dining hall ready for lunch anyway," Casper said. "Let me know what you guys decide, alright? If Mr D asks about you I'll cover for you."
"Thanks, Cassy," I said as I got to my feet. I helped him up and gave him a hug, taking in his sweet smell of forest and berries, before he quickly made his way over to the dining hall. I helped Luke up with Roxy and the five of us made our way over to the big house.
"Morgan!" I called to her, cupping my hands around my mouth. She stopped in her tracks and looked around to see me waving her over. She jogged up to us and stopped in front of me.
